I'm saying take the football out of the equation completely. If 4 people are in a room together, 1 of each of the 4 teams, the 3 from Ohio State, Bama and Auburn will hang out with each other. The "Michigan Man" won't. They think of themselves as the 'aristocracy' of life.

Edit: actually they think of themselves like that with or without college football so I'm editing

well this isnt true

No one really cares outside of a few counties in northern Alabama and eastern Tennessee.
The same could be said for any rivalry and its locales when it doesn't have national implications. Except for Army-Navy

No, it's correct, another term that would apply here would be "provincial".
Myopic is not synonymous with provincial. Provincial is a synonym for rural, uncosmopolitan. You're not really saying anything or if you are, it applies to every rivalry.

ou're right, that rivalry isn't as big, nationally, as OSU-Michigan either. Sorry.

I found them to be pleasant and engaging in Dallas a few years back.

You mean when they weren't good?

My friend is an FSU fan. He called me up randomly one day and was like "Michigan people are such pricks" and went on a rant about how he never understood it before but now he hates them. He said he was doing their audit and this guy was just too important to talk to him

They were top ten and had high expectations when we played that game.

You've obviously never seen/heard a Les Miles press conference.

I love Les Miles but he is far from the prototype. Hell he's far from the prototype of anything

all rivalries are localized

they mythology around Michigan and Ohio State is better because it's a broader more appealing story than two deep south schools in the same state hating each other

I really didn't. I said it gets better ratings consistently. If you extrapolated 'throughout history' from that, that's on you.

Historical ratings doesn't even make sense. Putting virtually every game on TV is a fairly recent development

Wow, I can see how you think Michigan fans are the unbearable ones.

It's so fricking lame to compare the Yankee rivalry to the hate fest that is Auburn-Alabama. The passion involved and the great moments in the actual games all belong to the Iron Bowl.

Even the 1 v. 2 game between OSU and UM in 2006 was on the excitement scale.

Who said anything about every game? We're talking about two games a year.

I didn't say it was, I said that term would apply as well. However both imply a narrow-mindedness.

But then the "better" in the OP is subjective, and could mean any number of criteria to be used. But yeah, generally, nationally, I think the OSU - Michigan game is seen as the bigger rivalry at least.

Using TV ratings is about as comical as using T-shirt sales. Sorry for pointing that out.

It wasn't that long ago, that even those games wouldn't make it on national TV

At this point we're just arguing about arguing

I sure did, with no specification on a timeline. Certainly not, "throughout history", which implies the entirety of college football's timespan.

Just to level set, there are no Michigan fans dropping in the rant being unbearable.

They're all working, and you can't use cell phones around gas pumps.
