Not surprised. It's asinine to think you can regulate masses of drunken fans with bells.

Probably. I'm sure they're not quite as bad in person because the sound can escape the stadium but on tv those mics pick up the cowbells and you can't hear what the announcer is saying. Even when you turn it down the cowbell will come through and not the crowd noise.

Advantage? Even with them, we are not in the top 7 in the SEC as far as decibel level on the field. Huge advantage right there..... With this massive advantage these cowbells give us, I guess we've been destroying our opponents in Starkville for the better part of 70 years now?
The butthurt from any school who has a louder stadium is absolutely ridiculous. Maine (and many other shittastic schools) have come in over the years and whipped our arse by some how overcoming the cowbells. I mean it just has to be so tough for other SEC teams to play in an environment that is right on the average line for the conference in on field decibel level.....

You can if the team is penalized every time the bells are rang.

No one is arguing that you're not a mediocre team. But the advantage is you're a mediocre team with artificial noise makers thus separating you from the other low capacity quiet stadiums. You don't see other schools in your tier doing it, or have I missed UK's thunder sticks?

Actually they sound pretty cool on tv... Flip between games & listen to the difference. Our televised home games give a unique sound to the viewer.

Come back and whine after the cowbells have actually made a difference in a game.

Dan probably takes the cowbells with him when he leaves for Florida.

You remember in the third quarter when Coach Mullen took Dak out and put a cowbell in at quarterback, and then the cowbell ran for a touchdown on A&M's weak defense?

That was awesome.

Of course, but I meant from MSU's perspective.

Is the SEC ever going to do anything? They seem to turn a blind eye.

That's the question... if state keeps winning and expanding, then it's almost inevitable.

and this exemption the sec has given them can be revoked, with enough support.

They fine MSU for excessive cowbell use. They were fined $5,000 in 2010, and also received a verbal warning from Slive that the rule was in jeopardy of being revoked. State was fined $25,000 last season. Every violation of the rule going forward could potentially result in a $50,000 fine.

Well they do. Otherwise you'd be a even quieter middling stadium.

For the record I like them. But if you guys caught up to other programs in prestige and capacity I think a ban on them would be a foregone conclusion.

I cannot refute such impeccable logic as that.

But, seriously, other than the fact that some players might find the sound annoying, I defy you to provide evidence the bells have ever made a difference in a game.

Do they not make it louder? Is increased noise not intended to create an advantage?

You're right, it'd all be anecdotal. I doubt you're just ringing them though because you need something to do with your hands.

It's just my guess but if you guys continue to make more (figurative and literal) noise I think it will lead to a ban against your bells.

They should be outlawed, MSU should have to follow the same rules everyone else does.

They are extremely annoying.

They will be outlawed the first time Bama loses in Starkville.

They actually are outlawed as they are artificial noise makers, it just isn't enforced in their stadium. I think a generous number of unsportsmanlike penalties in a row might quiet them down.

It's amazing, none of this post is correct. Congrats.

Nothing wrong with unique challenges at different stadiums, IMO. If they take away state's cowbells, they should make A&M buy some damn Febreeze or something.
