re: Jon Stewart overvalued his NYC home by 829%; he said Trump’s civil case as not victimless

Because he probably didn't break any laws.
I'm not sure how Stewart committed fraud in his deal, but the law Trump is charged under, 63(12) is directed toward repeated and persistent fraud. So the sell of one apartment w...

re: Any Word On Trump Posting Bond Tomorrow?

Trump could just declare bankruptcy, then the judgment gets stayed.
People are saying that would be a huge PR hit, but he could easily spin it as his only response to lawfare.
Bankruptcy could have other implications for him, like triggering a default on other loans or something. Still, it sh...

Yeah, just ignore that Icaldovtaljed about the 1980s and early 2000s.

re: Which one of these “Russia did this” stories did you fall for?

I had a very hard time believing the story of Hunter's laptop was real, although I never saw evidence Russians were involved.
A lot of the released emails were quickly verified, so I figured he had been hacked. The info was real, but the whole story of him leaving his
laptops at a repair s...
The GOP used to support mail in and early voting.
When did that ever occur?
As far back as the Civil War. But in the 1980s, when absentee voting became more popular, the GOP were the proponents. And in the early 2000s, when early voting in person was popularized, that was ag...

In Georgia, it was the GOP legislature that pushed no excuse, mail in voting, and Stacey Abrams actually oppose...
re: How does Trump’s half billon dollar bond in NY not violate the 8th amendment?
Posted by Dday63 on 3/19/24 at 2:05 pm
It's not bail, it's an appeal bond, which is standard in civil cases. Trump doesn't have to post the bond, but if he doesn't then New York can start collecting on the judgment.
The 8th Amendment arguments may be raised against the judgment, but not the bond.
Thus was a civil case, though, and...
re: Do you think it is fair that Chinese automakers can use Mexico to ship cars tax free?

Help me understand the issue here...
Nissan, Toyota, and Volkswagen can build cars in Mexico and import them tax free into the US, and that's not a problem. GM and Ford can build factories in Mexico, and we don't like it, but we don't tax them for it.
But if a Chinese company tries to do the ...

Bar exams are kind of irrelevant when it comes to measuring competency to practice law.
And, throughout history there have been other standards for ensuring competency, such as an apprenticeship, or graduating from an accredited law school.
Bar exams became mandatory I. The South after the acc...
