it's the CONGRESSIONAL Medal of Honor!!!!! and although it seems like you have to die to get one, a lot of recipients are very much alive when presented the medal...

I don't remember who it was, but there was a quote from a living CMoH recipient that went like this (paraphrased):
The best piece of advice I can give is to never get put into a situation where you have to earn the Medal of Honor to get out alive.
