Rick Perry was buying time for the war to wind down, and it worked.

So what you're saying is that, since I didn't enlist directly out of high school and instead commissioned after 4 years, that my service cannot be considered "heroic".

Clearly you are the expert on this having served for nearly 20 years including 4 deployments...oh wait, that's me.

I hate your team’s fricking guts, CGSC; but I thank you for your service!

I couldn’t do it, that’s for sure.

It depends. What was going on when you graduated high school? Was there a draft going on? (No.)

Rick Perry faced being drafted or going to College Station.

By the way, how heroic do you consider your service? Do you have a Bronze or Silver Star? A Purple Heart?

So, if I chose to go to college that’s a knock on me?

You equated Bill Clinton, who went to Moscow to protest the Vietnam War, to Perry, who served in the Air Force for 8 years.

Based upon case studies we had at Leavenworth, the post-Vietnam era was a dangerous time to be an officer.

Again, it depends. Were you avoiding the draft?

I don’t think so...

Dude, dial it back. People like him need to be ridiculed and mocked, not have their necks and teeth violently broken by a kick to the back of the head.

Relax it was rhetorical or did you really think someone was actually going to track texashorn down and curb stomp him?

Tell us what you have done in the military to garner the hero status of an Onclo Airheart or a Frank Denius.

There is nothing heroic about merely serving in the military. That is a recent affectation rooted in lower standards and Baby Boomer guilt.

It sounds very personal for you, texashorn.
Eerily similar to Randolph Duke’s angry obsession.
Are you and Randy the same person?

Tell me what was heroic about being drafted to serve in Vietnam. You're the one who set the benchmark for "heroism" as being enlisted/drafted during Vietnam vs. taking a commission through ROTC.

You're muddling the point, again.

Taking the ROTC route in 1969 was the most cowardly option compared to enlisting or being drafted.

Holy Crap! His inner Longhorn finally burst out. Now we can move on to the tragic rise of American values in the 20th Century or discuss how the Soviet Union was misunderstood.
