Looking at 110 years worth of history it is significantly more likely for Tennessee to have 10-15 years of sustained success then more failure like the last 10 years.
I'd say we will be firmly entrenched in the 2-4 range in about 10 years then teetering at 6/7.

Here is how Tennessee has finished in the AP by decade:
1940s: #4
1950s: #9
1960s: #15
1970s: #15
1980s: #25
1990s: #4
2000s: #20
2010s: #51 (so far)
With a handful of Top 25 finishes between now and 2019, Tennessee could very well finish as a Top 25 program of the decade for 8th consecutive decade. They and Alabama are the only SEC schools to be ranked as a Top 25 program of the decade during every decade since the 1940s..... though they are on the verge of losing it now.
Believe it or not, but Auburn is probably the next most consistent, behind Alabama and Tennessee. Auburn was abysmal in the 1940s, but since then have been a Top 20 program during each decade according to the AP:
1950s: #13
1960s: #19
1970s: #13
1980s: #8
1990s: #15
2000s: #13
2010s: #14 (so far)
Georgia's lone decade not to finish as a Top 25 program was the 1950s:
1940s: #9
1950s: #41
1960s: #22
1970s: #21
1980s: #9
1990s: #16
2000s: #7
2010s: #17 (so far)
If you go back to the 1940s, there have been 7 complete decades. Alabama and Tennessee have been ranked as Top 25 programs during each decade all the way back to the 1940s. Auburn, Georgia, and LSU have been a Top 25 program during 6 of the past 7 decades, each falling short once: Auburn in the 1940s, Georgia in the 1950s, and LSU in the 1990s.
Florida only made Top 25 status in 3 of the previous 7 decades: they were #22 in the 1980s.... #2 in the 1990s... and #5 in the 2000s.
Arkansas also did it three times (#2 in the 1960s... #11 in the 1970s... and #20 in the 1980s).
Ole Miss did it twice (#5 in the 1950s... #7 in the 1960s).
This is another defining characteristic of the "Big 6": Consistency over time. In all likelihood, 5 of the 6 "Big 6" teams will be able to say they were a Top 25 program during all or all-but-one of every decade going back to the 1940s by the end of this decade.
Alabama is currently #1 this decade. LSU is #9. Auburn is #14. Georgia is #17. Florida at #32 and Tennessee at #51 still have a shot if they finish strong the next four seasons.
If it were not for 3 National Titles, Florida might not be "Big 6" at all. Their consistency and lack of historical success does IMO give them one of the weaker resumes of the "Big 6". They simply were irrelevant until about 1990. However, its hard to argue with 3 National Titles. That's what puts them into the group, IMO.
But Arkansas and Ole Miss don't have those titles. Nor do they have much consistency as a powerhouse. A huge reason the "Big 6" are what they are is because they for the most part have stood the test of time.

As an Oklahoma fan, they would not be a Big Six or Big Seven unless they win a few SEC titles accompanied with a national title or at least a couple CFP appearances. Oklahoma is already a top 5 all time program nationally and that's fine with me. But to be established as part of the SEC powers, win a few conference titles with CFP contention.

Everything with the SEC will be straightened out after the Longhorns join and take charge.

While I am very sure this will not happen, the A&M/UT posts that would result would be truly epic =)
