Mullen isn't very popular in Gainesville, and not popular among high school coaches in Florida from what some big Florida boosters have told me. No clue what the back story is, but they have said he will never be HBC at Florida even though they admit right after that he is a very good coach. There must be a story here.

He's a pompous arse. When the Miami job came open a few years ago, one of the alleged reasons they didn't offer him was because he was so full of himself.

Who is going to take him from us?

We'll be one of the 25 richest athletics depts in the country this fiscal year. And we never have and never will lose a head coach over money anyway.

State is one of the better jobs in the country as it's currently configured -- and he's just scratching the surface of what we're capable of at MSU. Job security. Incredibly cheap cost of living. Can and will pay with anyone.

This isn't the Mississippi State of the 80s. Or even the Mississippi State of 5 years ago for that matter.

Ehh.. possible but I tend to think if Florida went after a Mississippi coach it'd be Freeze-- he's a hotter name, he's massively underpaid and he's at a mediocre school that will never win the division so why not jump if he wants to win a title of any kind.

because, "floriduh is not exactly a destination gig." ~CUM

That may have been true in the 1980's, but today in 2014, UF is certainly a "destination gig"

He isn't leaving. He makes $3 million a year +incentives, he will get a raise at seasons end probably and can do whatever he wants. He'd be a fool to leave to the mess in Gainesville

The knee jerk reactions to Mullen on this board are making me bipolar.

There are only 7 SEC west jobs. It's a new day gentlemen. You have the NFL and then the SECw.

Make 3+ million a year and the fans are beyond happy with 6-7 wins a season. You might actually be on to something here.

I can't see him going anywhere, and I agree he pretty much has it made right now. Dreams of a NC might do it, but that's a sucker's bet. In any case this cracked me up:

Mullen has ties to a very successful period in Florida's history and SEC head coaching experience. It wouldn't be a bad for IMO.

I can see Mullen at Michigan over Florida.

It will probably be someone with a lot of QB experience and I can guarantee

We will not be hiring a defensive coordinator or defensive minded coach for a long time.

I would love to see Mullen come back, but I don't think most of my compatriots would agree.

How much does Dan Mullen make at MSU? I know Florida could pay him more, but if he leads State to 9, 10, or 11 wins, he'll get a raise in Starkville and be a hero in that town forever.

He'd never have pressure on him again.

NOPE. If Florida goes 6 - 6 or worse, Mullen is the Gator's next head coach. Period. Unless State can find $60 million sitting around... Which, I hate to see that happen to State, but as a GeauxTiger, I'd hate to see Mullen anywhere, but UF is better than State for my own selfish interest

Hmm, true. He may have some growing to do still.

There would be an epic shitstorm if Pruitt went there.
