Since this type of league decision would have to come from the league office in B.ham, we'd have to wait for the office to contact Nicky & see where he stands on it. Once he responds, and any response will be focused on player safety, then the office will tell the rest of the league how much they get after bama has taken the bulk of the league revenue for its share. The monies paid to the league's refs would come out of the bama share as it is now. That is not socialism, that is monarchism, King Nicky being the monarch obviously.

This thread was shitty enough without the pointless reference to Obama. By the time he leaves office, he will be blamed for authoring The Communist Manifesto and causing world hunger.

pay to ESPN, the owner of the SEC Network

How much of the $1.30 PSPM and $0.25 PSPM fee does ESPN get I wonder?

You joke but Bama would NEVER try to take a greater share.

As Texas showed when you get greedy, rivalries are screwed up. Bama could have had a Bama Network years ago, but then they probably wouldn't play Auburn or Tenn anymore and that price would be too great.

That is part of why they are keeping perm rivalries as that is Bama's payment for the use of their brand to subsidize the MSUs.

Um no. Based on his offer, i would agree if we can have the cash back from the past moochers. Think of it as repayment from the poors back to the creditor.

The talk from the get go is that the SECN is a "50-50" deal, so I expect ESPN gets at least half of that rate.

But ESPN earns back that money on providing the setup- unlike the B1G Network and the PAC Network, for the SECN ESPN pays for the production costs (much like the LHN).

There is plenty of room in that figure for the SEC when you consider the B1G Network charges less than a dollar inside its footprint.

So the $10M-14M more anticipated paid to each school whether they deserve it or not, accounts for ESPN taking their share?

I don't know where you are getting $10-14 million from. I assume its because $10 million was what Florida was getting for their Tier 3 from Sunsports and yall were promised better to get onboard. Or maybe it was something you heard on here from someone who was using B1G numbers or LHN numbers as approximates.

First year I expect the SECN to pull in around $6 million per team, at least that is my napkin math once the Comcast deal is signed. And yes in my napkin math that is 50% of the total brought in revenue-wise. But it doesn't account for the SEC front office getting a cut, and I don't have exact numbers of cable subscribers in the footprint.

The thing is this number can grow quickly with just a few more companies signing on. If I had to guess I think Florida will make more than they were making from Sunsports by year 3.

But it is obvious Florida's AD doesn't want the money as much as he wants improved competition. If the SEC Network money makes the SEC programs more competitive in basketball or other sports that aren't football he seems like he will be happy.

I agree with the OP. There should be 2 tiers. UF, UGA, Tennessee, Alabama, LSU and A&M in tier 1 and get about 50-60% more than everyone else in tier 2.

Oh, well that is a different thing completely.

What that is talking about is the total revenue boost from everything combined. So part of that is the increase in revenue from going from the BCS to the Playoffs (every Power 5 conference got a piece of that) plus all the new TV money.

That article is a little old though, as it assumes a large boost in Tier 1 and Tier 2 revenues from CBS and ESPN respectively due to expansion. That didn't really happen that way.

Instead of paying a ton extra for Tier 1 (since CBS actually has a lot of leverage there), they agreed to pay a little extra but also to give up some inventory (I think two games) and (the big one) exclusivity in the afternoon window.

For Tier 2 ESPN purposefully mixed it with Tier 3 in order to have more significant games on the SECN (to increase the pressure on cable companies). We don't know what ESPN is paying outside the SECN for the Tier 2 stuff that ends up on ESPN and ESPN2 as they are really tight lipped about that. We won't know until the reports hit.

At the end of the day, everything is being done to make the SECN as successful as possible. That is why unlike many other networks it will have the biggest cable company in America signed on year one.
