Seems like it's a bit socialistic that the schools with lower viewership will be getting the same cut as some of the "haves".
They should only give it to teams that went to and won their bowl games last year.

I'm good with that year to year. Great idea.
Posted on 6/30/14 at 6:01 pm to roadGator
That means y'all wouldn't get a cut this year.
Posted on 6/30/14 at 6:15 pm to MaroonNation
That's right. I'd like a refund from all the schools that have been on the dole though.

Just go full Big 12 and give the teams on TV more times a bigger share of the TV contract. So much per appearance.

Well, shite. Let's do it on wins.
One for Florida... One, two, three for Missouri.
Two for Florida... One, two three for Missouri.
Three for Florida... One, tow, three for Missouri.

Mizzy winning a football game is like a tree falling in the forest with no one around. No one notices most of the time.
Viewership is where it's at. You guys would still be in the middle bottom of the dole considering all the sports. You wouldn't be at the bottom.
Just keep cashing those undeserved checks.

Of course! I think emulating a league on its last legs despite incredible football success (second best conference to SEC football-wise since its creation) is a wonderful idea.
Where is Dan Beebe when you need him?!?!?

I
I wish, figurately speaking and only in the most metaphorical sense .... I wish that roadgator would be run over by a truck ... on a road. Likc road kill except more like roadgator kill,
Of course, my wish has a better chance of happening than his.

You are a funny old fart. You are like my new puppy. Except old. If you follow me long enough I will eventually throw you a bone.

That's laughable coming from a Gator.
The Seminoles own Florida eyeballs, not y'all.

The Tier 1&2 TV money is based on brand power and TV markets. By that criteria the list of value is 1. Bama 2. UF 3. UGA. Etc. You are right UF is subsidizing others.
BUT a Mizzou with the Kansas City and St. Louis markets is ahead of the Mississippi's or an Arkansas. I would say their value if you weigh markets vs brand is about an LSU. That is enough to pull their weight.
In fact only a few SEC schools don't have the brands or markets to contribute, a much lower percentage than the ACC or PAC.
So we can spilt the money and still make more than Anyone.
And UF can sell its tier 4 (radio, merchandise, use of logos, etc.) for whatever you can get like Bama and Ohio St did. Still a gap between you and a Mississippi St.
Problem is you can't play yourself on the SECN, so you need partners and you need cannon fodder. SEC has a good mix of both.

Have they released the numbers on the benefIt to each SEC school yet?
Posted on 6/30/14 at 6:55 pm to roadGator
For the SECN? No they are purposefully not making projections. We won't know till a year after when the public reports hit.
SECN value is different from Tier 1 value (think CBS). SECN value adds an extra component to the equation- number of cable subscribers in that state.
By SECN value the list is 1. UF 2. Bama 3. A&M 4. UGA 5. LSU. That part of the list is subsidizing everyone else for good reason.
We will know by how much in a year.

Where's the best online explanation of the intricacies of the financial side of the network you've seen?

UF might not be one of your favorites, but it would be a huge blow if the conference lost Florida. All you have to do is check out how many TV sets are in each of the SEC states and you will see why. The most popular team college or pro in a state of 20 million people, you can't replace that.
TV sets do not tell the entire story, though. I mean, last season Florida was 7th in TV viewership. Middle of the pack. South carolina had a higher viewership, and I would bet there are far fewer TV's in South Carolina.

And lest you blame it all on Florida having a bad year....FSU was 13th in the nation. So, just having the most TV's, or the best year on the field does not guarantee viewership. Shoot, it looks to me like nobody in Florida likes to watch college football.
Shoot...Mississippi and Miss. St. had more viewers than Missouri, for that matter. So, it would appear as if Florida might get a small cut of that pie, but in terms of haves and have nots, I would say Florida is a weaker have.

Some of the schools should get more than others IMO all based on viewership, footprint, contribution to the network, etc.
Why? Did the schools not agree to be in the SEC? If they wanted a non-revenue sharing conference, why don't they go independent?
