We just recently had this discussion on Dawgrant.

Saban’s bust ratio is pretty high, dating back to his Michigan State and LSU days. Yes, he puts a lot of players in the league, but his players benefit from the scheme. Saban is a master at getting the most out of his players, but do they really develop?

I understand getting to the league is huge, but it’s also extremely important to get that 2nd contract.

It's like Andre Ware, David Klingler, etc. - it's the SYSTEM that's succeeding in college, not the players. Even professional talent evaluators are fooled by the SYSTEM into seeing more talent than is really there.

So to sum things up, Alabama fans disagree with a negative opinion of their program?

Ware and Klingler played for Saban now. The discussion might have better back and forth with examples of Saban's busts.

OP was feeling little sisterish and it came out in a thread. Maybe OP is Aundray Bruce.

Saban NFL players while at Bama, (round):

2009

A. Smith(1) - signed 2nd contract, 3yr 18mil
G.Coffee(3)- Played one year, retired
A.Caldwell(3)- signed 2nd contract with Buffalo, starter previous season
R.Johnson(3)- signed for three more years with Arizona in '13

2010

R. McClain(1)- signed 2nd contract then retired.
K.Jackson(1)- signed 5yr contract in '10
J. Arenas(2)- signed contract with new team '13
T. Cody(2)- signed 4y contract in '10
Mike Johnson(3)- 4 yr contract
Marquis Johnson(7)- out?
B. Deaderick(7)- still playing

2011

M. Dareus(1)- 4 yr contact
Julio Jones- $$$
J. Carpenter(1)- 4yr deal
Ingram(1)- 4yr deal
G. McElroy(7)- 4yr contract

2012
6 players drafted signed multi year deals
Menzie(5) one year, and traded this year
Smelley(7) ??

Looks like a high percentage of players have or will sign a second contract, with exception to the early retiree.

I don't see anything negative about the program in regards to the NFL but everyone can have an opinion.

If you are correct and Saban's guys are being overvalued, I consider that a very good recruiting tool. The ability to get players more than they deserve that is nice accomplishment imo. And as I posted above, it appears most will be around in the league for a while, getting paid.

They are comparing because Bama is on a roll right now and is putting a lot of players in the NFL. This frightens some fans because it means Bama is either catching up or pulling away from the other teams' records of players in the NFL.

Bama had some lean years during the Dubose, Fran, & Shula years. In 2008, Bama didn't have a player drafted. Saban has turned this around and is now putting many player in the league including multiple 1st round drafts.

After Saban puts them in the league, it is up to the player to succeed or not.

Negatron.

They are generally just bashed up and used up a bit. Most colleges don't burn their players to their very core like Saban at Bama. So, by the time they reach the NFL, they've already started burning their tanks down.

They showed a stat during the 2012 Iron Bowl that was pretty startling. Since the 2009 NFL Draft, Auburn had had 10 players drafted into the league. Alabama had had 11 players drafted in the 1st round alone during that same time period.

Several have mentioned the physical toll in players leaving Bama which probably speaks to the number of players that have surgeries after they've declared for the draft and why they tend to fade into the background during their first few seasons. As many have also pointed out, I concede that there is still time for some players to reach their full potential once they're healthy and have caught up to the speed of the NFL.

I also think going forward that this will become a counter argument for opposing coaches to use against Bama. Remember the talk in the spring regarding Bama RB's being worn down by the time the enter the draft right around the time Eddie Lacy fell to the 2nd Rd? What coach won't use that as example for recruits that playing for Saban may actually hurt your NFL stock?

And what point are you trying to make? That not every Alabama player drafted into the first round has turned into a super star? If that's the case then I 100% agree.

But do you know how very few NFL players actually turn into full blown super stars?
