Then cite one study supporting the argument that eliminating the HUNH will reduce injuries.

It's hard to study something that hasn't been done. Once we eliminate the HUNH, you'll notice a dramatic decrease in the number of injuries (real and imagined) to defensive players.

The HUNH debate is foolishness. Player safety is not the best rationale for changing the rules but there are other, better justifications. I know the AU fanbase here loves to post "he scared" or "he whining," with respect to Nick ("he gone!") but no, I don't think he is whining, and no, I personally don't care if the rules change or not.

So there's zero evidence connecting a single injury to defending the HUNH, but player safety is cited as a reason to eliminate it.

Makes perfect sense.

It's funny, not in the way you think.

If Gus proposed a rule change that benefited his style of offense, Bama fans would be going apeshit.

Saban didn't propose this rule, nor does he have the power to enact it. He simply supports it, as it is in his interests.

Auburn fans must be absolutely fricking terrified of the man to believe he has the power they think he does.

Meh, they have already made new recruiting rules because of Saban

Did you watch the Arkansas/Auburn game last year? On a long Arkansas drive, Auburn's defense had been on the field for so long that one of their players experienced leg failure. His legs just suddenly stopped working.

This is just one example of many, if defensive players don't have time to sub then they have a greater risk of injury due to fatigue.

Hey chuckles, it's not a joke to me. The safety of the players is paramount.

That's anecdotal evidence, and that's being generous.

Why not commission a study of injuries in games played under a HUNH vs traditional offenses and compare the two? At least then you'd have some sort of evidence, which currently does not exist.

If Saban was not in your head you wouldn't care.

Saban is the one who went to the rule committee to stop the HUNH.

I think Gus is in Saban's head and every time Saban looks up I bet he thinks of Gus.

It's just math and physics. More plays + no chance for defense to sub = greater risk of injury to defensive players.

Saban and Bielema are both defensive guys, and all the recent rule changes have been for the offense. Helmet to helmet, horse collar, "defenseless player," etc. This is an attempt to level the playing field for the defense.

If you want to argue that it was disguised as an attempt to protect players, then you can admit that it's just politics and move on. Or if you believe that Saban and Bielema really care about player safety, then there's no issue.

I mean think about it, Saban came to Auburn with the best recruiting classes in CFB year after year and two straight BCS National Championships. Gus said, I'll beat you on the field.

And did.

And then Saban turned around and said I'll beat you on the field next time!!! Oh wait, no, no he didn't. He said... I'll go to the rules committee to stop you from operating within the rules.

Gus owns Saban.

It's politics and an attempt to gain an advantage. Or eliminate an advantage against you. However you want to look at it.

Pro style offense running up the middle is a recipe for injuries.

The HUNH is still allowed in the game, so if it's about player safety (without any supporting proof from anyone), then why allow it at all?

If player safety was important, we'd get rid of kickoff and punt returns because we can prove injuries happen there...

Or shorten the game to 12 min quarters.

And the rule about defenseless players is really just so your receivers don't get knocked out. Is that really about player safety or an advantage for passing teams?
