This will never happen. Those that insinuate it do not know the history of Texas and Texas A&M. They would pursue any other avenue available for their betterment. IMO they will join the PAC if so forced.
They would FORFEIT the National Title game if it meant they wouldn't have to play A&M.

There is no "try". If they were to join the SEC, it's because, in their mind, they told the SEC "we're coming", and the SEC says "yes", which would never happen.

Can't say for sure, but Dodds may have accellerated his departure because of not reporting the Applewhite deal upline. Mack has been losing support on an almost daily basis, especially after he reversed himself in regards to Diaz remaining as DC. Both Powers & Dodds provide cover for Mack, but I think Powers may end up sacrificing Dodds to save himself. DD has a relatively low buyout. That would pretty much leave Mack somewhat isolated with only a few longtime supporters. What might be of greater concern to Mack & Dodds between now & the 2013 season is further discovery turning up more indiscretions inside the athletic dept by BK's lawyer. It will be interesting. I can tell you this, there are some nervous people inside the UT athletic offices. Dodds may not make to the end of the spring semester.

I also agree this could be a good thing for Texas if it results in a house cleaning. It needs to start with Powers and Dodds and go from there. Honestly I don't think Mack is as big of a problem as many sips do, you could do a LOT worse and replacing him with an improvement is much easier said than done. Mack is the smartest politician of the bunch though.

How is this thread still going?
The Big12 will remain at the current ten teams or expand ONLY for at least the next 12 years.
No team will be able to leave because of the grant of first and second tier television rights to the conference for the next 12 years. This means if a team were to leave, the Big12 would continue to keep their television money over the length of the grant of rights. This makes any team completely useless to add over that period.
The conference will not dissolve because its comprised of teams that would not have a spot at the big boys table should the conference dissolve.
All other discussions of if Texas would be voted into the conference are completely moot because they are NOT leaving the Big12 for at least 12 years, if ever.

Gerry, I believe that if the majority of the teams vote to leave the big12, it will break the contact. That was how it was originally. Took so many of the remaining teams agree to it though.

Bama, A&M, Mizzu, LSU and Arkansas would never vote them in. Ever. Nothing else really matters.

A bunch of namby pambies in here. Bring on Texas, OU, FSU, and Clemson.

You want to make less money?

Never. NC State and Va or Va Tech will round the SEC to 16.

He's right.

Yes, and like I said, this won't happen because with the exception if Texas, OU and perhaps OSU, these teams do not have a seat in a power conference if the Big 12 dissolves. Their only chance is to cling to OU and Texas as long as humanly possible.

Actually, both sides are right.
Texas is slipping, and A&M is in a position to POSSIBLY challenge for top dog in the state.
And Texas will never ask to join the SEC.

A&M is already top dog in the state. Check the recruiting rankings, top 25, and national talking points. And that is only after one year. Meanwhile they're rearranging deck chairs on the burnt-orange titanic.

Don't be dumb. It takes more than one year of success to become top dog. Sustain it for a few years and then maybe you can start saying that.
It is obvious, however, that the title for top dog in Texas is up for grabs right now.

And that has not happened since 1894. Which side would you want to be on?

I am pleased that A&M is doing as well as they are, and there's a good chance the power will shift permanently. But in 2010, things looked awfully good for auburn shifting power in Alabama.

I hear what you're saying, but that was a completely different set of circumstances than what A&M and texas are dealing with.
