Are Auburn boosters canvassing the campus for blonde talent and lining up bike riding lessons?

The insane overreactions to games are one of the things I don't miss about football season. They played Cuse and UNC-C in the first two weeks. There's no question Bama looked the best in week 1, and you can take your pick in week 2 -- TAMU and Ohio State both looked as good as UL, and there are others you could argue for as well. "Of every week" is ludicrous. But I'm seriously baffled that people don't actually remember how poorly he developed defenses when at Arkansas. He just didn't give a flying frick about them. He wanted to be a video game coach, and it showed. And his performance at UL prior to this season gives us absolutely no reason to act as though he's amongst the elite of CFB coaching. Charlie Strong did better at UL than Petrino has done so far. Are we assuming that Strong belongs in that pantheon right now? Seriously, as I said, pump the brakes with the knee-jerk overreactions.
you gotta remember random, you're mostly dealing with kids around here.

Petrino is not going to Auburn, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a fool. That ship sailed in 2012.

He begged for an interview and practically grovelled for the job before they hired Malzahn and they told him to kick rocks. Apparently the call went south from the get go.

AL.com: The job Bobby Petrino could not have

quote:

Auburn's search committee agreed to speak to Petrino on the phone, but the call was more of an interrogation than a job interview as the committee questioned Petrino's decisions, personal life and the circumstances surrounding his ouster at Arkansas, sources told AL.com. Petrino tried to explain himself, focusing on the future rather than the past. He was apologetic. He attempted to tell them he had learned from his ways and even offered to bring his wife to meet the committee in person at no cost to Auburn.

The committee had zero interest. Petrino hung up the phone knowing he had no shot at the job.

Days later, Auburn hired the other coach employed in the state of Arkansas: Arkansas State's Gus Malzahn.

What about the rumors of Saban retiring after this? He's finally tired of chewing Kiffins arse.

I guess that means Georgia State would give LSU a run for their money right now...

A) what rumors? Other than AU fans wanting the guy, I've not seen his name mentioned with AU.

B) why would he leave UL where he has it rolling (and will have a stud QB for this year and next) with a chance to win the ACC and play for a title each of the next two years (minimum) to play in a conference like the SEC where he wont have best program in state, much less division?

C) every football coaching search AU fans rightfully want big name guys - Patterson, Petrino, Shaw, etc. every football coaching search their administration lets them down by hiring names with AU ties like Chizik and Malzahn. If pattern holds, AU will end up with someone Pat Dye likes/has connection to.

Petrino is his own worst enemy. He will do something to derail himself and his team.

Great coach that is always getting in his own way with off the field issues

Are we talking 2003 or 2012? He has a $10 mil buyout and Auburn would owe $10 mil in buyouts. It isn't happening.

He would struggle to get 3 stars there. Do you think parents would send their kid to play for a dude that has had 10 head coaching jobs in 15 years and fricks volleyball players on the side? Opposing coaches would have a field day recruiting against him and that is why I wouldn't want him here.

Hasn't hurt Bama's recruiting offense with Lane Kiffin

Not like Petrino was a cracked out junky. He was cheating on his wife. Got caught lied about it and it cost him dearly. Same story could be told of many a men. SOme learn from it and become better people. Who knows.
I know he don't bolt on ATL if Vick is railed. And the whole Petrino play book can be opened up with a QB like he has now or a M Vick. He never had that option at Ark. The NFL was about to be screwed until Vick got canned.

Every Bit of This....

After a few seasons, he will not be able to recruit those LA players worth a thing. His military mind set, berating them continually, LA would be open season for recruiting.

But he does like Corndogs... and your grass would be safe...

The biggest difference between Petrino and Gus is a good QB.

Too many offensive coaches get way way too much credit just for lucking into a great player at the QB position.

13,795,000 reasons why they probably won't.

Was reading that Gus and his staff would cost that much to buyout their remaining contact.

Chizic buyout in 2012 was $7,500,000

4 years later, Gus and staff buyout $13,795,00

Petrino buyout $10,000,000

Total cost for Auburn coaches in 5 years if they get Petrino $31,295,00

This would average out to Auburn paying their coaches over the last 5 years $6,259,00 per year, and this does not include what they would pay Petrino in salary
