Per Scout

"I visited Auburn this past weekend," said Abdullah. "They finally officially offered me. I talked to coach Chizik for 30 minutes. They want to sign me as an athlete. Auburn has been my favorite, but I want to take my visits to make sure.

"I am really excited about those offers. I actually feel like cornerback is where I am best suited to play. Everyone thinks I want to play running, back but I think if I am given a chance I can prove myself at corner. That's where the money is at."'

LINK

Shows that 1. He visited and 2. He was offered a scholarship.

Which makes all of this incorrect:

quote:

According to Abdullah:

quote:
Abdullah said much like Nebraska, a firm offer is only on the table with a visit, and he appreciates Auburn being honest, as well as Nebraska.

He never visited, thus never had an offer.

If Auburn was legit and wouldn't pay for recruits and use God/fake prayer to get/keep recruits then I wouldn't have a problem giving them props for their season but we all know whats going on here. I do think they are funneling money to recruits to churches too(actually pretty smart but still very dirty)

You're kidding, right? Surely you can't be this stupid.

So what do you guys propose "The Auburn God Rule"... Should we have a rule that prayer and God should not be allowed?

We're not saying it shouldn't be allowed, but it is definitely a sleazey tactic.

sleazey tactic

Can you provide anything credible that shows it is a tactic? I am not disagreeing because I don't know which way to go on this. I don't know the coaches at all. I do know one of the players well and he is around the coaches a lot. He says the coaches are real in the way they live and in what they say.

So I have his take on real life experience, but I need something credible to read, or hear that proves your accusation. Can you do that for me?

So you think Chizik and Trooper Taylor and company are just casually discussing religion with these guys? Get a grip. They're tyring to get something out of these kids and using Christianity as a ploy in doing so.

Invoking God is kinda like the ultimate example of acting like a self important SOB

Not only do you know God's will but he saw fit to have you spread the Gospel? And the most important Gospel is not fighting poverty, disease, or war? It's Auburn football?

Yeah, it's weird and arrogant (to me as an outsider)

The thing that makes me mad about this God/spiritual stuff with Auburn is not that they use it (I know ND likes to emphasize the spiritual growth someone can go through by coming here in recruiting) but that it seems really, really over the top and fake.

whats funny about this is the whole argument was started about a story that has zero quotes from the Auburn coaching staff. It is about Trovon Reed and his injury and how he wanted to play last year but his knee wasnt ready. And that his faith in God is what helped him get through tough times like that and dealing with his mother passing away last year. he said that he felt like he let everyone down by not being able to play but God has a plan for him, and that involves him being patient and he hopes that part of the plan is for him to be ready to play next year.

They really are the fricking worst. I especially enjoyed how Trooper used the dead mother angle with Trovon Reed.

Very nice.

see you are making an argument based on your assumptions. I am offering you an opportunity to show me the truth behind your words.

Like I said I have real life account from a player who has been associating with the coaches for two years and his opinion of what they told him during recruiting remains the same today as it was two years ago.

So please give me some type of vaildation of what you say other than another lame statement that has been written many, many times already.

But it's not this story that we're referencing specifically. Auburn's been talking about religion being a part of their program all season.

I don't have any specific examples, nor do I care that much to actuallyfind some, but you and I both know they've been doing this shite all year. Chizik talks about this stuff moreso than any other SEC coach.

Exactly. Another example...We all know Mark Richt is a deeply Christian man but you never see the over the top marketing of religion and God with Georgia's football team.

Auburn's tactics are transparent to anyone with some self awareness and common sense. I know sometimes it gets to be "whatever it takes" to be a winner but sometimes you have to know when to draw the line.

I honestly don't really have a problem with them doing it, except for the fact that, in order to do this stuff, you MUST be sleazey about it. You can't just be like "thanks for committing, oh, and we were frickin' around with all that Jesus stuff..." If they were upfront about it, I woudln't have a problem with it, but that's impossible.
