lots of people were born in Starkville....doesn't mean they have a connection to the school.

Only Bama fans can claim connections to a school just because of being born in the vicinity.

I don't ESPN cares about whether the picker has an affiliation with the school so much these days. Case in point, Kenny Chesney was the picker for SC-Mizzou and Katie Perry last week. They're going for ratings and someone identifiable to the mainstream.

Given the popularity of porn these days, Evan is the only choice.

He rarely came back to MS when he was playing...one example of his problems with MS is he hated how he couldn't walk into a bank without getting scared looks until he became famous.

He is back now. All I can tell you is he talked favorably of Mississippi in his book.

has two connections.

Depending on how Dylan Favre feels about MSU....Brett Favre could be a decent pick.

another thing you have to worry about is if that person is under contract with a network outside of ESPN/ABC. That's the reason why we couldn't use Shepard Smith.

Can't find anything stating if he still does it or not....but Jerry Rice co-hosted a sunday football show at an NBC affiliate. If he's still under contract with them...highly unlikely he'll be able to appear on an ABC/ESPN station.

Best thing that could have happen to Ole Miss.

Katy Perry was a homerun.

When Jerry Rice got to the NFL the first thing he bought was a big house for his mom back in Mississippi, my family is from the area and have always been in the brick business. My dad said he worked on the house and it was a mansion but mrs. Rice had a chicken coop in the front yard

She was. Shep would have been good though....but Katy was great. Hell....you'd have had LSU jokes with either of them.

well who wouldn't do that? Obviously, the tune changed with Rice regarding MS. But for years he hated it....

I'm still waiting on him having a connection with the school.....

I was born on the coast...that doesn't mean I have any connections to any schools down there...

I didn't tell that story to prove that he likes MS. I told it because his mom put a fricking chicken coop in the front yard of her mansion.

You're not famous. You can't tell me having an NFL superstar like Rice being born in podunk Starkville, MS isn't somewhat slightly relevant to Mississippi State.

I never said it wasn't relevant to Mississippi state.

My point is MSU isn't relevant to Jerry Rice. He has no connections to the school.

I've seen this mentioned a lot by State fans this week. Are you saying this because was born at the Starkville hospital?

I know he grew up in Crawford.

You're just flat out wrong, which is par for the course. Rice was literally on campus, in the football facility, yesterday. He was at Bulldog Bash. He hosts an annual golf tournament in Starkville. Starkville, and the university, are most certainly relevant to him.

We could get the Pope, Burt Reynolds, Mr. Rogers and Channing Tatum and y'all would still say Katy Perry was better so that's why I'm dodging these threads. Her Pickem was bar none, and hats off there for sure. I just want to fricking win because I hate Auburn second to y'all as far as an opponent goes.

Having a Heisman candidate is exciting enough.

We aren't the ones saying Katy Perry was great. The national media is doing that for us.

also....I don't think any ole miss fan is honestly bragging about her appearance on gameday as an actual accomplishment for the university.
