Grade your AD

I'm constantly baffled by the fact that UGA under-performs (in my opinion) across the athletic spectrum while being located in such a talent rich state. The failure to attract good talent does not fall squarely on the shoulders of coaches. Facilities are a major factor. Outside of Sanford, Gabrielsen and Magill, the facilities at UGA are mediocre. The recent upgrades at Stegeman and Foley Field amount to nothing more to lipstick on a pig. I honestly don't believe that Greg McGarity wants to make the necessary financial in our athletics.
My grade for him is a D.
Curious to hear thoughts about your AD.

I grade ours as a: B
He maybe didn't pull the trigger on basketball as fast as I would like, but he prevented USC from stealing Sumlin.

F
Hyman has yet to hire or fire a coach
Hyman had to be told by the donors that if it came down to him or Sumlin, his arse was gone
Hyman wanted a smaller stadium
Hyman paid for the fricking CBI tournament to give himself a raise in 2014

A+ despite the lack of facilities for the big 3.
UF has the best overall athletic program in the SEC and the most efficient programs in nation. Foley is a large part of that.

I grade ours an A.
but to be fair....the baseline for us to judge ole Miss AD's is incredibly low.

How much of that is him, and how much is the sensibilities of the fanbase?

Not much of an argument about that (your law school is bad, but that's another topic). I think most UGA folks thought that McGarity had a management style and philosophy similar to Foley's. That is not the case.

C+ at this point, with room to improve if the Avery Johnson hire works out and we get a new baseball coach soon.

No grade for Mizzou.....brand new.

Prior to the Barnes hire AD Dave Hart would've gotten an F but he's managed to save his skin for now. He's actually done ok on the hiring front in terms of who he winds up with but pretty poorly in terms of the hiring process (each one minus the hiring of Barnes has been a circus). And of course Tyndall wound up being a major mistake as a hire (still think the guy would've been a very good coach had he not screwed up so badly at his last job). But overall the hires have been ok to good with the process leaning toward bad.
The major complaints are how he's handled a plethora of other things that add on to his more well known screwups. So I'd give him D right now.

My grade for McGarity is a B.
FIFY
McGarity is probably doing about as well as can be expected with what he has to work with. Our admins are more interested in developing the academic standing of our university which is understandable.
I think college football is headed toward a demarcation between institutions who truly want student athletes and enforce academic standards (ex. Ivy League schools) and those who will effectively become part of a semi-pro league basically paying players to play for their schools with minimal academic standards. Unfortunately I see the SEC probably moving in the later direction but I am not sure UGA will follow suit. Regardless, the NCAA is going to find itself in a very tenuous position over the next 10 years.

He was a better baseball coach.
Tanner hasn't been tested, honestly. He may have to fire Holbrook this year or next, and what he does then will answer this question. I would like to believe he already has a very short list of who he would go after when Spurrier leaves his office for the last time.

Morehead has been very positive in investing in athletics. McGarity has no excuses since Adams left.
The AJC interview McGarity did, basically trying to deflect blame and campaigning for himself over more pro-football people at UGA, was absurd. What AD does that?

I gave him a bump from an A- to an A because he pisses MSU fans off...

I don't believe this to be the case. Good athletics and academics are not mutually exclusive. I began thinking about this after watching Wisconsin play on Monday. There are solid athletics and academics at that school...as well as Stanford, Florida, Ohio State and several others.
