Stegeman - In my opinion, Stegeman needs to be the exclusive home of the gymnastics program and we need a new basketball arena. Period.

IPF - We will see.

You probably aren't aware, but UGA has only made the tourney 12 times ever (one of which was the most miraculous, improabable way ever), 2 of which are in the last 5 years by Fox. I could expand on this issue further but this isn't the place.

Making the tourney and exiting in the first round is nothing to brag about -- unless fine with mediocrity.

quote:

his isn't specific, it's an obvservation. And if Stricklin is horrid, then perno was whatever horrid^5 is. Anyone with some reasoning skills knew it would be at least 2 to 3 years before we got back to being good again due to the MASSIVE hole perno put us in.

I am simply not sold on the Stricklin hire. A 16-4 drubbing by Mercer should never happen. He should have fired -- my opinion.

quote:

Not specific. WHAT renovations need to be done? I'm sure you're familiar with how it is laid out...so unless you completely demolish the whole thing and either move it or orient it in another direciton, there's only so much that can be done infrastructure-wise.

Hire a damn architecture firm to figure out how to increase seating capacity and make significant upgrades within the current confines.

quote:

It's called the greatest gymnastics coach of all time retiring. When you're #1 for 5 straight years, there's only one direction to go from there.

That's the spirit. I bet you are happily content with our 1980 natty.

C: Jacobs has made terrible hires and atrocious contract extensions at times, but he has gotten Pearl, Malzahn (although he isn't completely proven yet), and Myers (softball). He has been very strong in support of Auburn and is making improvements to facilities, like the IPF, Auburn Arena, and the JHS improvements.

Jacobs lucked into Pearl. Not really much credit should be given there. He hire Barbee which put our program back a decade.

Also Jacobs needed a search committee to help him hire Malzahn. Which was the most obvious choice possible.

No one care about softball.

Hire baseball, women's basketball, and swimming and diving coaches all seem terrible so far.

Well, Pearl cancels that out, no?

People complain about anything. The fact he did a vetting process is a good thing, not a bad thing. Who cares if they arrived at an obvious choice?

They're selling out, so I beg to differ.

They really can't be judged yet IMO. I'll give Golloway another year, areas have improved since last year. Women's basketball improved as the year progressed, deserves more time. Swimming and Diving finished 6th in the nation, I wouldn't call that terrible.

My final judgment on Mitch's legacy is going to rest on how Stoops does. Mitch has gone all in to try and get football turned around and so far we finally seem to be back on the right track. Brooks laid a great foundation, Joker took a dump on it, and Stoops is putting the pieces back together.

Mitch must be doing something very well, he is one of the 3 finalist for AD of the year Nationally this year. At time, he frustrates me to no end, but has done a wonderful job. The program as a whole is wonderful and I think he is trying to make football work.

Thanks South Carolina.

Hyman Good Points-Stays away from the football program.

Hyman Bad Points-No leadership abilities. He has really messed up the basketball program. Should of fired Kennedy two years ago. Tried to screw up Kyle Field expansion. Why doesn't he just go ahead and retire?

He must have some pictures of the Board of Regents Christmas party. Why else would they keep this guy on the payroll.

What does this guy do?

He just took the job, so he gets an incomplete for now.He was able to get an on campus football stadium at Houston, so he has at least shown he can pull in the donors.

Agreed.

I hate we lost Tanner in the dugout. I give AD Tanner a B- so far. Holbrook is a phenomenal recruiter but his coaching style and choices are questionable. But what's the point of having top 10 recruiting classes every year if that talent never develops.. I'd almost rather take the Tanner method and develop average talent into CWS world beaters. Baseball is a sport of momentum and trends though and while it seems like the rest of the SEC is trending up, SC is trending down..... I can't see Gamecock fans being comfortable with that. It's not like we're terrible at baseball all of a sudden but it seems like the past few years we haven't been playing that hard nosed feisty brand of baseball that SC is known for. IDK, maybe I'm nitpicking. Inevitably though, Tanner's future grade will depend on this Holbrook situation because elevating Holbrook to HC was really his first move as AD..

As far as facilities, fundraising, etc.. I don't know. Carolina is still building the projects that were in play when we had Hyman... Tanner doesn't have that prized facility yet, which may end up being basketball IPF, more luxury suites/fan enhancements at WB or a future football operations facility near WB.. We're pretty strong in other sports outside of the big 3, especially spring sports, so I think we really need to expand and do more for our Olympic sports. I like the renovations and additions we're doing with soccer/T&F. Adding sand volleyball was genius.. but S&D needs a new natatorium and we should also consider either jumping in on gymnastics or lacrosse. Or maybe both.

Tanner's grade will also likely be determined by his next major coaching hire... which will likely be finding Spurrier's replacement. Hyman made some VERY important basketball hires that have us trending up in that sport but this upcoming football hire in a few years will be HUGE for SC. It has to be a home run.

TLDR
B- ... Tanner has some very big hires and potentially firings coming up. How he handles those along with any future major facility enhancements will determine his legacy at South Carolina..

Foley: A

Yes, he's fricked up on the Zook/Muschamp hires (although both were let go at the appropriate times, not too early/late), but otherwise , the UF ADPT is still one of the best in country. Billy D. is tGOAT BB coach in Gator history.

Oh, I definitely agree. The athletics department is running as smooth as it ever has, and we haven't had any major incidents or scandals under Mitch's watch. He doesn't get a pass for BCG in my book. Joker...well Brooks shares some of the responsibility for that. But the last couple of years things have really started to look up, especially for our non-revenue programs. Rifle, cheerleading, softball, gymnastics, womens basketball, soccer, volleyball, all are ranked consistently and killing it on the field. I'd like to see baseball step it up. HS baseball here is extremely competitive and Kentucky is annually a Top 10 per capita producer of MLB talent. We may not be pumping out guys like California, Florida, or Texas, but UK should be more of a factor in the SEC other than simply making regionals every year.
