Georgia fans, and to a lesser extent Auburn fans, need your input on something

This video of Keil Pollard's signing day speech from his HS coach is making the rounds on twitter and elsewhere.

What's your take on what his HS coach says? Why did Kirby wait until the last minute on this kid? He seems pretty special. The coach mentions Auburn too, as the other one who screwed up, while praising FSU and Bama for being in there from the get go and doing it right. He mentions SCAR winning the kid over in the end, but I'm just curious as to what went down with UGA and why, or how, Kirby may have dropped the ball on this kid?

On the surface at least, he would appear to be a bigger, faster, stronger version of Pharoh Cooper ... we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Keil Pollard never got an offer from Georgia. I know there was rumor that he was offered but that was false. The staff did not offer him.

He's a tough kid that will probably outplay his rating. He is just that kind of guy. Same thing with Randcreous Davis. Not going to run past anyone with 4.8 speed but will be a good player.

He didn't drop the ball. We had others higher on our board.

Not even close in terms of talent.

He's rated like the 67the WR in the nation. Pharoh Cooper is one of the best recievers in the nation. Let's temper those expectations a bit.

To be fair... I don't think there is any way UGA "missed" on Pollard. The last minute offer, assuming there legit was one, sounds more like they had guys in mind for WR and either missed on them and went after Pollard or at the very least they had reason to believe they might miss on them and need to go after him.

It's kind of like how Cushenberry ended up at LSU. He's from Louisiana with a good LSU team that recruits well, but he was committed to Carolina. Yes he was told to look elsewhere but LSU must have missed on another OL to go after him that late.

Cocky and Floyd pretty much nailed my thoughts here. I don't think we "missed" on him, simply didn't have him rated as highly as others. Now, that very well could be a mistake, as I think he'll end up being a pretty good ball player, but given what we ended up taking at WR, I don't think he is definitively better than the other guys we signed.

I wonder why he didn't mention Arkansas, he was committed for awhile and we were always on him as far a I know.

As for answering the question, it sounds like we were concerned about losing NCM so put feelers out as a backup option. Haven't seen much else from AU's side

Okay, cool. I was just going by what the Colquette coach was saying. Thanks

We're happy to have him.

I was surprised Arkansas was never mentioned because he had been committed to Arkansas for awhile then flipped at basically the last minute for whatever reasons. I think getting to play against Georgia every year might have been a contributing factor.

I don't really blame the kid for wanting to stay closer to where he lives just kind of sucks when its the last minute like that.

All you have to do is see Auburn's WR class to know why. He may turn into something great for SCAR but AU stuck with some highly talented kids.

Yeah lot's of our fans wanted him to get an offer. Rush Prospt loves him as a player. He is a good ballplayer and I hope he doesn't come back to bite us in the arse. I imagine USC will always have a solid foothold in Georgia with Champ and B Mac.

I agree that expectations should be realistic but I would also point out that Pharoh was like a 3* out of high school. I'm not sure he was very highly recruited and his talent wasn't truly seen until he was all we had.

That being said, they are just different players. Cooper being more elusive and Pollard being just really hard to bring down.

Auburn signed the #6, #9, and #20 receivers nationally. Kind of explains why we didn't offer this kid

But ... but according to the Colquette County coach, and I posted the video in the OP, AU most certainly did offer Pollard.

Or is he lying?

If FSU, and especially Bama, offered the kid, there's something there. He might have been a fall-back for Gus in case his higher-ranked receivers fell through, but it seems likely Gus was on the kid. Especially since a system like Gus' would be as big on measurables as on talent.

He's probably lying. I read every single update since like December about our recruiting and have never heard of this kid

You first said in the OP it was suggested that AU screwed up on getting his kid, and asked to comment. Auburn posters ar merely trying to show you it wasn't a screw up, we had better rated talent coming in. Of course it is possible that Wuburn may have or thought about offering, but that is different than what you asked in the OP.

It seems now you are trying to feel really good about picking this kid up, and you should because he signed with your team, Only so much room you can use for revivers. Hope the kid works out for y'all.
