Fox News' The Five just played the audio clip of Pat Dye and then proceeded to own him.

They did bring up some good points though. Mike Leach never played a down of football and he turned into a decently successful head coach.

The BCS kept the BS out of the equation. Get ready for the Ohio States and Notre Dames to be put into the mix for old times sake.

And you're gonna tell us that a guy who just went 7-5 and 4-4 in an inferior conference really had that much better of a resume?

You have to ask yourself if you understand football history before you could answer this correctly. A brief googling should make it clear to you why this is really funny.

I think Condi is good enough to be on the committee, better than actually having gene stalling or pat dye there

Stallings explained that there’s much more to understand about the game than wins and losses, saying that the best teams in the country often have a loss during the season. But he made it clear who he thinks should be a part of the committee.

“It takes people that have played, it takes people who have coached, and it takes people who have won those big games.”

“I don’t know why we have to be picking people from all of the country that maybe have good positions in other deals – they’re retired military people, they’re retired commissioners, they’re retired all kinds of people. But have they ever really coached a big game? Sure, I worry about that.”

Oh, trust me, I understand. I've been following college football probably since before you were a twinkle in your father's eye...certainly long enough to understand that Houston Nutt would have been an upgrade over various other coaches you've had in my lifetime.

And certainly long enough to recognize a lame, face-saving effort from a guy who knows the facts are against him.

Gene and Pat need to just sit back and remember their glory days, and quit trying to be a part of college football today. Just be retired and away from the programs. Dye really needs to leave the Auburn program alone. Let the younger coaches coach their own teams, and let whoever makes the decisions for this committee do so without them putting in their two cents. I love Coach Stallings but he could never be on the committee, because he himself says he doesn't watch any game in its entirity, and Pat Dye can't even make a complete sentence, and he's already said that he would always put Auburn in the mix. Coaches and xplayers would be bias and you know it.

Fify. I know there is no comparison between cfb an hs fb, but to say never played a down of football is not true.

Some people weight their qualifications differently. A lot of people think game experience is a must. Nothing wrong with that and there's nothing inherently sexist or racist about it, either.

I feel the same way about people who don't understand why the people who don't have coaching experience were picked.

we already have a coaches poll.

and geeky AP voters have been picking national champions for years.

I doubt this to be true.
