Fumble without question. Feel bad for Tenn and that player, but that's 100000000 percent a fumble.

It'd be nice if you used an angle actually going down the goal line, and one where we can see his carrying hand. None of which apply to the gif you posted.

When did the player lose control, in your opinion?

Does it look like he has possession of this ball? It's pointing sideways, and his wrist is visible. The only way he's possessing the ball is if he has 5 fingers in a cone shape holding the cone end of the ball, which we obviously know he didn't based on what happened the rest of the play.

I wish I had it, but based on video available, there is no indisputable evidence that he fumbled prior to crossing the plane, which is the standard. If a TD is called on the field, it should have stood.

Wow - that gif is telling - dunno how the hell it was overturned with absolutely indisputable evidence if that's the best shot they had.

Was without a doubt a fumble.

There is NO WAY you can tell with certainty from that photo that his hand is not holding the ball, which is "disputable" video evidence, not indisputable.

Ignore WG, he either doesn't understand the rule, or he's trying like hell to troll you.

Without a doubt, he dropped the ball, but when and is that indisputable video evidence?

He may still be touching it at/very near the goaline, but he's lost control/possession of the ball.

When do you think he lost control of the ball? I see him extend the ball with his left hand, while still in control. The ball breaks the plane while he is still in control. He loses control after the ball hits what appears to be the pylon. Either way, you can't tell when he loses control based on that GIF alone, which means the ruling on the field should stand. If you want to show me a different angle, i will reconsider. Otherwise, TD Tennessee.

touching the tips of your fingers is not possession/control of the ball

He's not merely touching the ball...he's holding the ball.

Two. Different. Things.

Yes, it was a fumble. Ball just kept going right out of his hand. Some coaches really coach hard against players sticking that ball out to try and cross the goal line.

But, the Vol player was selling out to try and get the OT score. Can't blame him for taking his shot at it.

Great effort by Tenn. I enjoyed watching that game.

It's hard to tell exactly where on that gif, but the ball begins tumbling out of his hand prior to the ball crossing the goaline. Again, IMO he's still touching it, but he's no longer controlling it.

The speed of this gif may be deceiving; seemed to me both the full speed and slowed speed replays during the game more clearly showed a loss of control.
