Because many people, including ones in this thread, say lsu was "lucky" to win the first game

Outgaining your opponent from the 2qtr-end of the game is not a lucky win

Yea, they were not lucky. That's silly.

They were opportunistic for sure, and we were not. As much as one can be in a game without touchdowns haha.

Did U.K and Arky have similar resumes with lsu in being chosen for the national title game?
Dont waste your breath. A retard could see there is no similarity there. You will get dumber for engaging this fool.

Yea, LSU's offense is in no way shape or form the reason LSU beat Alabama the 1st time. 9 pts, 239 yards and 4.1 YPP.

You can say that, but LSU outrushed Bama by 50+ yards in that game and finished the game with more than double the amount of rushing yards Bama gave up per game that year . Jordan Jefferson averaged as many ypc in 10+ carries as any Bama RB in that game. LSU's offense wasn't great, but it got to Bama's 2-yard-line before half and made it inside the 10 in overtime. Bama's offense never even made it to LSU's 15-yard-line. Also, Michael Ford averaged over 6 ypc on Bama's D and most of those carries were from the option.

They can't hit a bull's arse with a bass fiddle right now, but with Verlander going tomorrow I'm not giving up on them.

Alabama didn't deserve to play LSU

True - Okie State probably would have scored that game.

I think it was only 7-0 at that point anyway.

It was 9-0 at the half.

LSU had 1 sustained drive the entire game.

It was a defensive war where Alabama had slightly more yards and slightly longer drives and LSU had 2 huge forced turnovers to prevent points and score points.

And then LSU made 2 big plays in OT and Alabama made 0.

And LSU won.

We finished multiple games better than U.K. And Arky

Lsu finished with still a better record than Bama....

But that’s not what we’re talking about. Here’s the part of your post I was responding to:

wouldn't lsu winning at Bama at the time eliminate them from being better than lsu?

The answer to that question is no, not necessarily.

It honestly looked like Miles' offensive game plan was to cross his fingers and hope that Bama turned the ball over deep in their own territory.
With Jefferson and Lee as his 2 QB options, that probably wasn't a bad strategy.

that by winning the so called "game of the century" on the road meant nothing

It meant you got to win the SEC. You have a conference championship that year that we did not.

You seem to forget that Ok St's loss was on a controversial field goal just after a tragic plane crash.

Don't give me that "tragic plane crash" bullshite as an excuse. He was the head coach of the women's basketball team. I don't doubt the players liked him and were sad to see him die, but let's not act like they went over to his house every night for dinner. Brett Favre played what was probably the greatest game of his career the day after his own dad died.

Ultimayely this is what I'm getting at:

There was no playoffs in college football. However, everyone loved it because they viewed the regular season as more important than any other sport, and as a pseudo playoff

In 2012, with lsu as the clear #1 team being penciled in, choosing Bama as #2 when they already lost doesn't make much sense to a lot of people who viewed the regular season as important as a playoff, regardless if you view Bama as the second best team

A lot of people in their mind would compare it to this:

NFC championship are two teams that are 14-2 and have a dog fight. Afc champ is a 9-7 and 10-6 team. Should we allow the loser of the NFC champ game go to the super bowl because we still think they are better than the Afc team?

Obviously, it is not the same scenario. But I am saying how a lot of people viewed a rematch during the non playoff days

It clearly wasn’t tragic enough to affect the team while they jumped out to a 24-7 lead. It’s a low down, sorry, pathetic excuse that is absolutely irrelevant to the conversation and has no business being brought up for that purpose.

Yep. If you want to blame anything, put it on their difficulty actually getting to the stadium, but the plane crash had nothing to do with it.

Amazing how they suddenly remembered all the victims at halftime, up 24-7.
