This is bullshite. Bama was the best team in the country that year and it showed. Oklahoma St did not deserve to be in the conversation. LSU would have ran right through them just like everyone else.

Agree mostly, but AJ was much better than any QB LSU had to offer!

But I can't blame that LSU team for being deflated about it because the BCS essentially said A) winning the regular season meeting didn't matter, B) winning the SEC didn't matter, and C) going undefeated didn't matter.

The BCS never made any pretense that those things mattered. What the BCS said from the very beginning was that the goal was to match the 2 best teams. Period. End of discussion. And that's what it did. LSU fans have always been butthurt because for some reason they thought they had somehow earned the right to coast through the BCSCG and a weaker opponent, which is pure fricking stupidity.

This is the Oklahoma St. kick that put Bama into the mulligan bowl.

I think it just happened to be perfect failure of the BCS system.. human voters manipulating the composite score by intentionally under ranking teams or even leaving them out of the top-25 is a nightmare scenario.

Most Alabama fans try to justify the choice by saying "we had the best loss" ( ) while most LSU fans gripe because they feel it should have been based on who had the best wins.

Best wins prior to selection (rank at that time):
Alabama - #22 Penn St, #6 Arkansas
Oklahoma St - #11 Kansas St, #15 Baylor, #19 Oklahoma

My favorite question is.. if LSU doesn't step out of bounds on an easy TD run in overtime.. and wins by a TD instead of a FG.. does the rematch happen?

It doesn't matter what LSU or Miles would have done on that day. No one and I mean no one short of BB is gonna beat Saban twice in one season...not with the type of talent he had. The reason it's a such a bitter pill for LSU fans is that it was the first time two teams who had played in the regular season wound up playing in the championship game.

LSU beats any other team in the nation easily and as Miles as pointed out, both he and the team never even considered having to play Bama a second time. Miles has even said that if he had to do it over again he would have lobbied both publicly and privately to put Okie St into that game. However he never fathomed he would need to.

In addition, LSU has to play a SEC championship game while Bama sits on their asses at the house. The entire situation was bogus in the end.

You guys made it to the championship game with a chance to win it all. Had you been the best team that year you would of won the title but......

LSU was probably (narrowly) the best team in the country that year, but these were two of the best teams in decades, head and shoulders above the rest. If they had stayed together these last few years they would have met in the Ship every year.
LSU LSU’ed in the Natty, Les being Les and poor QB play. Alabama played a nearly flawless game and LSU didn’t.
Did Bama deserve to play the game? Of course they did. If your goal is to have the two best teams in the game, that’s what happened.

And in the employee candidate debate, LSU wasn’t a candidate, they were already on board. The question is who do you hire for the one available position left. If you believed that one was second only to LSU, you would be foolish to skip the second best and hire the substantially less qualified 3rd best.

We got screwed. The NCAA wanted to make sure their golden boy got in. We didn't stand a shot. Gump refs, beating Saban twice in one season, our guys not pumped up.. everything was working against us. Rest assured if it was any other team our guys would have been ready to go and would have been cemented as the best team to ever play college football.

How can you get hyped up to play an opponent that you already beat and they got in because the NCAA played favorites?

Pitiful.

Which would have been seen as an obvious ploy to create the easiest path to an LSU win, not match up the two best teams...which is the ONLY purpose the BCS ever had.

Exhibit A for my post above about LSU fans and pure fricking stupidity.

They're too fricking stupid to grasp the concept that just because Alabama lost the first game doesn't mean that Alabama wasn't one of the top two teams in the country...which is ALL the BCS ever sought to create. The fact that so many butthurt LSU fans wanted to play OSU is proof positive that OSU wasn't the right team to put in...it was obvious even to them that OSU wasn't one of the two best teams.

The irony was, I hated watching him in HS before I made it there. Helped him warm up with some passes every few practices and we chatted.

You know, there really weren't that many players from Texas on the 2011 LSU football roster, and there aren't a whole lot of positions (C, WR, other QBs) that tend to throw with QBs for warmups.

This doesn't sound like Russell Shepard, so I think Alex Russian would be the prime suspect here, assuming it's not just some fake bullshitter on Reddit.

P.S. -- I just saw Team Vote's post on pg. 4; I guess it was the freshman walk-on FB from Georgia, Hayden Boudreaux. Yeah. I guess he meant he was a lifelong LSU fan who was growing up as a sophomore in high school in Georgia in 2008 who hated watching Lee throw INTs.

What frustrates me the most is what was touched on earlier on this page of the thread: the 2011 LSU Football Team won more football games than any other in our History.

We beat the PAC-12 Champion, the ACC-Champion, beat the #2 Team on the road in a Division, GOTC matchup, won a conference championship with a ticket to the Natty on the line versus a Top 5 UGA Team, and also beat #3 Arkansas in the final regular season game that year. We beat 3 Teams that won BCS Bowls.

...and because of 010912, our fanbase and program will have trouble celebrating the dominance of that team and their season. We will never truly appreciate how we played all year. The matchups, the adversity, the dominant performances. None of it will shine the way that it truly and rightfully should because of what our head coach did to us in that game.

It will grate on me until the end of time. Like a splinter in my mind. I will not ever forgive Miles for that.

I can absolutely understand why LSU fans hated and still hate it. We would have hated it if the roles had been reversed, for sure. But none of that means Bama didn’t deserve it.

Deserving and earning are two different things, and they didn't earn it. Were they one of the best two teams in the country that year? Absolutely. But they lost the one that was supposed to matter. You should have to win your conference.

Maybe that's not the way it should work, but it's the way it worked until that year, and it was BS.

Also, had we not played Oregon that year, they'd have been a one loss PAC 12 champ that would absolutely go to the Natty. And we'd have whooped their asses. But that's the if game that LSU fans have been forced to play ever since.

It's not a fun game.

2001 Nebraska and 2003 Oklahoma both made it to the big dance without winning their conference. And, like 2011 Alabama, 2001 Nebraska didn't even win their division. So there was precedent.

And that's why LSU fans say that Alabama didn't deserve to go.

They wanted OKstate bc they would have beaten them.

They didn't want Bama bc Bama would give them a run for their money.

I really don't have a problem with how it played out, I do agree with the fact that it was unfair to LSU bc it basically meant that winning the west and SEC championship worthless. But for LSUs argument to work, they need to win the title game.

Bama won the title game, so they obviously deserved to be there.
