He used the term "UAT" so I assume he is just another ITAT barner so you can't take anything he says seriously.

The formula we're using right now is the exact same method used by schools like Florida and Georgia a decade ago. It works- there's no denying that.

Just use AUA on them. Hell it fits too.

The man is a hell of a coach. Just think if LSU could have kept him!

I'll take, "thoughts that dominate every LSU fans frontal lobe 24/7" for $300 out of $400, Alex.

You had to know it was only a matter of time before an Auburn fan used the "I know several UA alumni who are unhappy about this" or the even more popular Auburn reply of "guidance counselers say UAT is a garbage school" line. It's inevitably brought up when ANYTHING remotely positive is written about Alabama as a school. As an alumnus, I'm thrilled with what UA leaders have done the last 5 to 10 years. I would like to see them cap enrollment where it is though.

If you are proud of lower grad standards and increasing enrollment that's fine. Most Universities are following that model, Purdue and many others. Some have capped enrollment so as to drive a higher level of student through due to this cap. UA went a different route.

When you are in upper management you don't want a watered down degree, same thing in engineering.

Good Lord. The standards are higher. Read the article. Jesus.

This is so ridiculous. Acceptance rates have significantly gone DOWN. The school is becoming more selective.

I guess alumni from enormous, quality schools like UCLA and Michigan have totally worthless degrees

When you dig into the numbers UA has become less selective recently, as a whole. It is how the numbers break down, this point can't be argued period end of story.

Please show me those numbers and how you dig into them

They increase the number of "provisional" students that are coming in, so the lower end students that are still getting in are now counted differently.

Purdue the last few years was giving away ipods and gift cards for you to apply. This allowed them to get a whole bunch of applications to deny, and you got your money back when you did. So that made their numbers of who got in look lower than it actually is.

Purdue used to be one of the top engineering programs in the nation. Right now I won't hire one of their grads unless they really impress me in an interview.

I'm not saying this is overall a bad thing. You get a lot of money to come through the university and they give a chance to someone who couldn't get in at some of the very restrictive schools due to income or previous performance in school. I think it is a good thing people can go to a University and have a reasonable shot of getting in. But there are negatives that come along with that.

Back to the main point: Saban is awesome. His winning has improved the University tremendously.

Well I don't think UA is giving out iPods. Do you have any proof of the increase of provisional students?

I don't mean this in a bad way, I'm just being honest. There are pluses and minuses to both ways of doing this.

For Instance if AU let everyone in to try and appeal to the masses in Alabama there is an argument to be made that AU could start winning over people because of them going to the school. On the flip side it waters down the AU degree and can strain the funds available if not managed properly.

It is just two ways of targeting students, again some programs are going select few, but they run the risk of offending students that traditionally would go there. I think AU is running into this. AU is not GT, but AU is becoming so selective that it is limiting engineering students to those that could have gone to GT and not taking those near misses.

Oh well I'm going to back out of this talk at this point.

That's a good question. Especially when bama has been the higher ranked school for a while now.
