I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you are pretty anchored in Mississippi both financially and with family. Is that a correct assumption?

Yes, as matter of a fact I am. So I assume you are going to say people like me and my family are ignorant? If thats the case I dont want to hear it. Both of my parents as well as everyone in my family is highly educated and has a college degree. So dont come with Im your typical ignorant Mississippi redneck.

This statement alone shows a LOT of ignorance too be honest. This isn't anywhere close to my point.

My point is, of course you get offended by people saying they want to move out of this state. You are anchored here(don't take it as a bad thing). I, however am only held back by family and some friends. I'm not financially bound to this state.

After college, It's absolutely nothing for me to move out of state. If someone is wanting to pay me more money, why stay here? Honestly, why should I stay in Mississippi if there is a better job out of state.

Because there is a difference between being southern, and being an ignorant redneck.

This is an easy generalization to make.

I like you Elisha but you're backtracking. First you hate the South and can't wait to leave. Then you like Southern culture. Then the South is full of ignorant people. Now there's a difference in Southern people and ignorant rednecks.

Broad generalizations can get you into trouble and leave people confused about what you really believe.

And the last game WE played was a NYD bowl game.

Congrats on your one game season....no really.

Your terrible grammar and use of commas gave you away. Welcome anyways.

There was always a difference.
You can find rednecks in every state of this country.

I want to move where there aren't a ton of them.
Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, and Boston are a couple cities I'm looking at. Also considering Spain.

I love my family in Mississippi.
There are alot of other things I like about the state.

There are better places for me, though.

It really burns me up when someone tries to talk down to people who live in the South and people who live in Mississippi. I look at my home state like I look at my family, its far from perfect but I still love it and try to look at all of the positive attributes of it.

I agree 100%.

I hate the attitude some people have about southerners.

Ditto, in some cases. In others, you have to take into account the level of maturity and lack of experience in making ignorant statements. It's like a 16 year old that thinks they know everything, but they've experienced nothing. Other cases, you get kids that go into a college with what they think is an open mind, only to fall under the spell of liberal professors and what they think is an open mind, is really just an empty mind that gets filled with grandiose things, and gives them a feeling that they actually know something about the real world.

This is one of the dumbest threads ever. That being said, let me give it a whack.

First of all, I moved to Nashville out of college and loved it. Might move back. Might not. Might move somewhere else. Might not. Also, I like Mississippi too. Also, I hate Mississippi too.

Second, arguing about State and Ole Miss's recruiting classes? Right now neither one is really any better. Could change before signing day. Yeah State has let up at the end, but someone opening their recruitment back up doesn't mean they are leaving. If state isn't in the top 15 or so, I'm really not gonna be fired up about their class because they are five or ten spots ahead or behind of Ole Miss.

I'm know what you're saying.

I love Boston. It's my favorite city in the United States. My wife has family in Atlanta and we've considered it. I love that there's a concert or sporting event practically every weekend and usually during the week. Moving to Atlanta isn't really getting out of the south though.

I don't LOVE living here. I wish things were better in parts of the state like Natchez and in the Delta and in the capital city but it is what it is. I don't want to get into race but there is an African American community in MS that wants to do nothing but suck on the government's teet. Not a blanket statement. Anyone who lives here knows what I mean. Most people in MS don't want to help each other or themselves. But it's where I've grown up and it's where I've built my life.

I'm going to do my best to make it better.

We see eye-to-eye on both accounts of this post.

See, this is where we differ.

I have grown up here, but I have yet to actually start building my life.

When/if I move, I will still give money to the University and I will still come back to visit my family, friends, old stomping grounds, etc.

I have some great memories here in Mississippi, but I'm not going to stay somewhere just because I have history there.

The grass is always greener. I guess it depends on what you want out of life.

This has truth to it a lot of times. You can't predict the future and it is really difficult for your life plans to be executed to a T.

But one thing that is certain, is that there are more opportunities elsewhere. Not saying that there aren't ANY jobs in Mississippi, but GOOD jobs here are hard to come by.

You speak truth. If I was young and single, I would move away too because of the opportunities elsewhere.
