I am actually FROM THE SOUTH, lived here all of my life and LOVE IT HERE. I also Love my home state of Mississippi and Mississippi State University. After graduation from State I actually give back to my home state by working and owning land and a house, and paying taxes here in Mississippi.

It really burns me up when someone tries to talk down to people who live in the South and people who live in Mississippi. I look at my home state like I look at my family, its far from perfect but I still love it and try to look at all of the positive attributes of it.

I used to think I would be happier living in a place like Boston or New York. I've taken trips and absolutely loves it up there. I love the culture and I love the pace.

However, the south is my home and it's in my blood. I love the open space here. Empty fields, woods, and highways through the woods. I love how it feels to get away from it all. It's not that easy up north and it's definitely not the same.

ETA: I'm no Paul Ott but the older I get, the more I appreciate it and the more I fall in love with it.

I agree 100%.

I hate the attitude some people have about southerners.

I love the south, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be happier living somewhere else.

Ive lived in Mississippi all my life and couldnt imagine myself living anywhere else. While taking vacations to places like New York and California are fun, i'd never want to live there. After a few days of being in the big city I always find myself missing gravel roads and well..hospitality

The sooner the better douche.

It really chaps my arse when you have holier than thou piece of shite that say shite like this.

If you don't like it GTFO! Seriously, how can you even call yourself an Ole Miss fan. A school that embraces the southern culture that you hate.

Because Oxford is a tiny town, yet Mississippi is a huge state of fail.

And the people in charge sure as hell aren't doing anything to make it better.

The Magnolia Bowl and Cotton bowl trophy weight more than the Egg Bowl trophy.

Figuratively and literally.

You are type of Ole Miss student that makes me sick. You cant get into any school in your home state so you come to college here, get a great education, and then leave Mississippi only to talk smack about everyting in the state except for Oxford and Ole Miss.

I'm from Southaven.
I've just traveled enough to realize that the South is not where I want to live my life.

I would consider retiring here, though.
It has it's benefits.

Seriously, how are we expected to stay in a state that has as many incompetent govt. officials as we do.

Our idiot Governor turned down Obama Stimulus money. And he just recently cut spending in half towards vocational/technical education.

Why should we feel like it's our duty to stay in a state that is doing absolutely nothing to improve itself.

Obviously you should have never moved to Mississippi to go to college if you really feel this way about Mississippi.

You dont have a clue. Mississippi has been under the leadership of one of the best governors in State history with Haley Barbour. He handled Hurricane Katrina as good as anybody could, has managed to continiously manage the state budget, and also has helped improve our state schools, and road systems while Governor.

I think it is a good idea you get the hell out of the state of Mississippi as fast as you can when you finish school at Ole Miss if you really think that we have it so bad here in Mississippi.

If you guys think Barbour is so bad, then why is Mississippi one of the most economically sound of any of the 50 states? Why do we have some of the best roads in America?

Yes he said NO to Obama money, becuase we dont want handouts when we can take care of ourself.

I guess you guys think we would be better off if we elected John Arthur Eaves Jr. as Governor?

I was born in Biloxi and grew up in Tupelo. I would love to stay in this state for the rest of my life, but I'm smart enough to know that I can do better for myself elsewhere. I love how you generalize ALL Ole Miss fans to be Out-of-Staters.

And Haley Barbour is the complete buffoon that I'm referring to. Yea, I was impressed with the way he handled Katrina.

But him turning away MILLIONS of Fed dollars and cutting MILLIONS from education is what solidified him as a complete idiot.

You guys have claimed yourselves that over 50% of Ole Miss' student population is from out of state. Im not generalizing, just basing my comments on what you guys have told me on here.

My parents are both in Education and they agree with what Gov. Barbour is cutting in education. Its call the FAT, some school districts have 3 ast Superintendents all making over 90K per year, and other administrative asts making money close to that. What Gov. Barbour wants to do is reduce the money spent on schools by consolidating school districts thus cutting the fat. This will not lead to any teachers losing their jobs, it will however mean that there will be less people at the top making big bucks.

Its called being fiscally sound economically.
