You weren't around here back then, but it was the same. The arrogance went through the roof post-Saban ... which, to our dismay, was actually well founded.

But its not like the arrogance level was low before that.

The potential to be an elite program and being an elite program are two very different things.

Nobody was claiming, with Mike Shula in charge mid-way through 2006, that Alabama was an "elite" program. I'd venture to say not even the crazy bammers on TideFans.

Now, when the job came open did people say the "potential" is there? Sure. And they were right. Same as LSU.

I wasn't around this site but I was around the other internet sites.

Bammers were always arrogant, and many times stupid. However, as someone knee deep in the heart of Bammer country in 2004 and 2006 (aka on campus), nobody thought we were in the same sentence as USC and LSU. Nobody.

Could we be with the "right coach"? Of course. But we didn't have one then.

Most people are trying to project LSU potential rather look at questions based off facts. I'm not trying to stir up chit with LSU posters, nor am I'm trying project 10 or 20 years ago.

Or just a consistent good football team like a Wisconsin/TCU type. They haven't won the Sec West in several years. They lose 2 or 3 games each year since "Da rematch" happened it seems. I'm not trying to flame by no means, but when is the last time has LSU won a Big time bowl game? LSU Posters on here always want to give themselves the benefits of doubt when they chit on other Ranters' programs for using the same reasonings, excuses and moral victories posted by themselves.

F A C T S:

Historically:

LSU is #11 all-time nationally in # of NCAA football victories, and #8 in bowl appearances nationally, and is ranked the #10 program nationally all-time by College Football Warehouse.

Since 2000:

LSU is in the Top 5 in the country since 2000 for # of NCAA victories, and is the ONLY program in the last 17 years, since 2000, that have done ALLLLLL of the following (In conjunction, together) (Some schools have done a FEW of the following, LSU has done them ALL):

1. Had a winning season every year
2. Gone to a bowl game every year (17
counting this year), winning 10 so far)
3. Won at least 8 games every year
(With 10 Ten-win or better seasons)
4. Gone to 5 BCS bowls (winning 4)
5. Gone to 8 NYD bowls
6. Been in the Top 10 in recruiting IN AT LEAST
12 of the last 17 years, if not more.
7. Been in the Top 5 in recruiting IN AT LEAST
6 of the last 17 years, if not more.
8. Won 4 Conference Titles, played for 5.
9. Won 2 National Titles, played for 3.
10. Is Top 3 in nation since 2000 for producing
NFL players, and currently leads the nation
in 2016 for former players on current NFL
rosters.
11. Has finished in the Top 6 or higher in
attendance every year and now has the 4th or 5th
largest on campus stadium in America.
12. Leads series against Alabama 9-8.

All time LSU is definitely a Top 10 program, especially in the post-1992 era.

Jesus man...again I'm just asking for here and now....so going from 2000 on Auburn and Florida are better programs then LSU according to your logic.

True. But what no one realizes is that LSU was #12 all-time nationally in wins and #9 in bowl apps
PRIOR to 1992....

Sorry Smoke.
Here and now ? No, not elite.
Close? Yes.
We lost to #7 Wisconsin and #15 Auburn each on the LAST PLAY of the game, and had Bama on the ropes in the 4th quarter.
(Still say if the ref calls the clotheslining holding call on Hurt's TD run, yall MIGHT have gotten a FG. And the no-call in intentional grounding from the end zone cost us 2 points and a possession.)

If LSU wins out, goes to the Sugar, how can you deny us of the elite status?

This is very easy....

Elite program? Yes. National appeal, big games, gameday, recruiting, nfl draft, win/losses.. all that goes into it.

Elite team? For the last few years not quite.

No. But be careful using Alabama as your measuring stick.

That's why the only answer is "no". Alabama and Ohio State have all those things AND they can be counted on the be contenders every single year.

LSU is not elite, but they are in whatever you want to call the next tier.
