Interesting question.

Did they deserve to be in the playoff? Sure. The better question is did they deserve the number 1 overall seed? Under the BCS Florida State would have remained the #1 team as long as they stayed undefeated.

Could you imagine a 13-0 defending champ Alabama team being dropped down to #4?

Chronic Did Alabama Deserve to Make the Playoff? (Post playoff/bowl analysis) You're literally too stupid for anyone to waste their time pointing out the flaws in your third-grade level logic.

Let me break it down one more time for you:

Alabama absolutely deserved to make the playoff if you look at everything before the bowl games. No doubt. I have never said/thought otherwise.

With the collapse of the SEC during the bowls, particularly the SEC West, Alabama's schedule looks like crap now.

TCU destroyed the one team that beat Alabama.

Alabama lost to Ohio State.

Florida State was undefeated and was getting in no matter what.

In considering all of that, can we ask if Alabama was the least deserving team to make it into the playoff? Or, was TCU better? Or, did TCU deserve to be in before them?

That is what I am asking. If I see a decent point made against the question, I'll accept it. But, there is quite a bit more stupidity being thrown around in saying that the question is illegitimate.

None of this is Alabama's fault, by the way. It is the fault of the pitiful showing of the SEC in the bowl games.

fsu didnt deserve to be in, they sucked shite all year. undefeated blah blah blah, all we heard in 2011 was the two best teams in the country should play. well in 2014 the 4 best should

Agreed. But, they never would have been left out.

Bama deserved to get in over FSU, no doubt.

Before the playoff? Absolutely.

I am looking at things in hindsight.

When TCU destroyed Ole Miss, EVERYONE was saying that they deserved to be in the playoff over Ohio State. Ok. Well, Ohio State beat Alabama on the scoreboard and by every statistical metric. So, clearly TCU didn't deserve to make it over Ohio State. Then, who? Florida State? Absolutely. But, FSU was undefeated and that wasn't going to happen.

Based on Alabama's schedule falling apart, I asked the question. It is legitimate.

They took injuries into account for Oregon. How about ole miss losing their receiver/beat offensive player and alabama having injuries in that game as well.

But seriously transitive property doesn't work in CFB. Would TCU beat us - I would say probably. However that was what a lot of people said about Ohio state and us and we saw how that turned out.

BAMA won the SEC-W, SEC and went to the first ever FBS play-off as the #1 seed with an LSU quality QB. Think about that for a few minutes and see where our program ranks versus yours.

Transitive property is all that the committee used, though. I agree that it doesn't work, but it is what is used in these discussions and it is applied over conferences.

Conference strength matters more now than ever. And, the SEC fell completely apart when it mattered.

LSU sucks and Bama is very good. I knew that before you told me to "think about it."

You cannot possibly comprehend that this thread is about something other than "LSU is better than Bama ggggrrrrrrr!!!!!"

Unbelievable.

It is about the SEC and what happened to Bama's schedule and how that plays into national perception in choosing the 4 playoff teams using HINDSIGHT.

Wow.

We are going to have this discussion every year until the playoff is expanded and every conference gets an equal shot at the NCG.

Unfortunately, you really don't have an accurate picture of each conferences strength until the season is fully completed. So up until that point you are just making guesses at who is for real and who is a fraud. Pre-season rankings and week 1-7 rankings really don't help anything bc all they do is artificially inflate teams early in the season before we know who is legit. You saw this with ole miss and miss st this season.

I appreciate you talking football and examining the body of work instead of flinging shite like so many posters have in this thread. I respect the points you're making, it's food for thought.

Couldn't this all be avoided by completely getting rid of weekly rankings and expanding the playoffs to 8 with 5 auto-bids and 1 final ranking to choose teams 6-8?

I have a bias TOWARD the SEC. It took a lot to get me to question this - and it has nothing to do with Bama hate.

If LSU had lost to Ohio State after the SEC West fell apart, I would not be at all surprised to see other SEC fans ask this very question.

Since when did a question that happened to involve Alabama become out of bounds here? So many bootlickers and sycophants.
