This is horrible news though any way you look at it.
Will be crippling to Tennessee's basketball future.
Very close to the perfect outcome in that we wouldn't have had to fire him, would have made the Sweet 16, and we would have gotten rid of him. But he snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Marquette isn't in a great spot right now. So it's not out of the realm of possibility that the money simply wasn't worth the mess.

Wojo interviewed today. Howland is another option.

This is what being a Vol fan is starting to feel like

I'm going with option 4, Martin was never offered the Marquette job and he just played Hart like a fiddle on the way to the bank.

Twitter reaction by Marquette fans and others is hilarious right now.

Realize big east isn’t what it was, but I bet cuonzo martin will look back and wish he had taken up Marquette. Solid gig.

Cuonzo Martin should tell UTK to kiss his arse.

Saw a pretty reliable poster on another board say he heard earlier in the evening (and he had alluded at that time) that Marquette may be moving a different direction.
My guess is that Cuonzo lost out on the job but probably parlayed that into trolling Hart for a raise.

^ESPN reported it was Martin's job to turn down.

FWIW, you should be happy about this Vol fans. Cuonzo is a solid coach and more likely than not a better coach than who you would replace him with.

I'll take Hatvol's word over espn's when it comes to VOLS athletics.

Only one. I saw a lot of people say they didn't think this was true.

Imo Tennessee should fire Cuonzo. The buyout goes down on our side as well today. No chance this ends well over the next few years.

I'm being 100% honest when I say next year will be far worse for him than this year after this stunt.
A rough season alone will be tough for him to survive. A loss to Auburn at home? Buckle your seatbelt, big fella.

Year 1: 19-15 (10-6) NIT 2nd rd
Year 2: 20-13 (11-7) NIT 1st rd
Year 3: 24-13 (11-7) NCAA Sweet 16
Do you realize how ridiculously stupid Tennessee fans look calling for this guy's job? He's improved each year including a sweet 16 this year, and you people want him fired
He wouldn't even get fired for that at Duke or Kentucky. And Tennessee isn't Duke or Kentucky.

Year 4 will be worse than year 1 from a talent perspective. The cycle is starting over.
If he continues the same pattern we can expect NITs and horrible losses this year and next and then maybe a good 2 week run in 2016 and if we're lucky even a first four berth! Can't wait!

You have to admit, things are not looking good for next year if Stokes goes pro.
Are you fine with making the tourney once every four years?
