I'm all about a debate on things that are debatable, but the idea that Saban murders running backs is just intellectual dishonesty. A 2 or 3 headed monster is one of the things he has always been known for. Last year was a huge anomaly brought on by a shaky new QB, gelling OL, young and gelling WR corp and no real ready backup, a bunch of games that we had to grind out........plus a Heisman Trophy winning starter at RB.

I didn't think anyone took him seriously anymore since people discovered he was a bigot.

Didn't see you Auburn fans giving a shite when Gus was running Tre Mason 30 + times In a game. But Henry got a Heisman and a championship out of it so he got the better deal.

Yeldon missed 4 games last season. He had 9 games where he reached at least 50 yards rushing. That's 64% of the games he played. In 5 of the last 6 games, he had at least 50 yards. He was consistent running back for the Jags.
Ingram started in 12 games last year and had over 769 yards rushing. He had a 4.6 YPC average and also hauled in 405 yards receiving. That's 1174 total yards of offense. Pretty productive I'd say.
Eddie Lacy had a drop off from his back to back 1000 yard seasons, but still finished with 758 yards and a 4.1 YPC average. He also had 188 yards receiving and finished with 152 rushing yards in the playoffs.

The last 11 games of the season Tre Mason averaged 25.3 carries per game. Gus is such a dick.
Mason averaged 28.3 touches per game vs Power 5 teams
Henry averaged 30.4 touches per game vs Power 5 teams

Coffee retired to be a Green Beret.
Ingram is still in the NFL and recently signed a nice contract.
Lacy is a Pro Bowler and just lost a bunch of weight.
It's not his fault T Rich is a bust. The jury is still out on Yeldon.

Tennessee Bama literally beat in the last 4 minutes. Auburn, Bama was up 9 and Henry wanted to close them out badly. He burned clock where Harris probably couldn't have, and did so. Same against LSU. Georgia, MSU, aTm, backups cleaned up. He's a stud and Bama rode him to a Natty. Like any other smart team would.

Given that running Henry up and around the middle was far and away Saban's preferred method of grinding out the clock and wearing down defenses last year, he probably averaged a lot less than that in terms of actual attempts to gain serious yardage.

Who are the other busts besides T Rich? Ingram signed a $16 mil contract last year. It's WAY too soon to judge Yeldon.

Explain how Ingram and Yeldon are busts? Yeldon just finished his rookie season and Ingram was resigned in 2015 by the team that drafted him.

There is no metric on this planet that would suggest TJ Yeldon is a bust. WTF is wrong with some of you idiots?

LF will also finish his college career with around 165 more carries than Henry.
The myth Saban abuses running backs is overplayed and outright ignorant.

As I said about LSU in the thread with an LSU fan whining about TAMU fans, people are doing it because it gets a reaction.

Yeldon had over 1000 yards from scrimmage as a rookie on a pretty bad team. BUST!

Yep. 1019 total yards (rushing and receiving).

Auburn - 46 rushes (semi close game)
Florida - 44 rushes (semi close game)
These games were never in doubt. Ever. While the score may have stayed closer than "blowout level" for much of these games, Alabama was solidly in control nearly the entire time.
90 carries in two games seems a bit exorbitant if you ask me... but this was right before the Heisman, so I guess you could say they ran him excessively so he could win the trophy. Can't say I wouldn't want the same thing if I was in contention for a Heisman.

He didn't have any games where he kept running the ball after we were up 28 points.
28 points? It's hard for me to fathom Saban blowing a 28 point lead, or anything close to that.
Look I don't think Saban is to blame. He's not. Obviously Saban would never allow or promote a kid to run his way towards poor health. But while it may have never been "intentional" to run him that much, that doesn't mean that it was smart to do so for the kid's long term sake.... or his draft status.
Playing against SEC defenses is a punishing task.... far more so than it was 15-20 years ago. And for a kid to carry the ball 32 times per game against SEC defenses is subjecting him to quite a beating... not to mention another 36 carries against Clemson. That is some punishment on a body.
Was it wrong? Not necessarily. Was it smart or necessary? Outside of Clemson and maybe Tennessee, I can't find a game in which the outcome would have possibly changed had he carried the ball 5-7 fewer times.
