Or perhaps it's because Alabama's backs do well in college and get drafted higher, thereby going to shittier teams. Shitty teams are typically ones who don't get it done in the trenches. No blocking, no success.

One day, Bama fans will realize that Colin trolls UA because people react to it. I used to like him, but I mean come on, the dude is a younger Skip.

I can play this game, too.

In 1988, Barry Sanders averaged 31.3 attempts per game during his record setting season with Oklahoma State.

By Cowherd's logic, Sanders was abused and shouldn't have succeeded in the more talented NFL. Quite the opposite happened if I recall correctly.

In 1981, the year Herschel Walker set the SEC single season rushing record, Walker was averaging 35 carries per game. He won the Heisman Trophy the very next year.

And, as an above poster has pointed out, Henry's number of carries were an exception to Saban's rule. Only two backs have averaged 20 attempts or more per game since Saban has been at Alabama - Trent Richardson in 2011 and Derrick Henry last year.

The only person here that brought up Cowherd was AU24.

I think at this point pretty much all non-morons just bookmark his ramblings only to go back and laugh at them when they are proven wrong.

I was about to come to Saban's defense... and then I looked back at statistics.

It appears that in 2015, Henry had more rushing attempts than any other SEC runningback since Rudi Johnson of Auburn back 2000. That's quite a long time.

But the thing is... Alabama only had a handful of close games. I can understand bad teams with bad quarterbacks utilizing their runningback all game long in order to find a way to win.... that was not the case with Alabama last year. It was rare for the game to even still be close in the 2nd half. There really doesn't seem to be a reason that Henry got so many carries last year.

It is fun when it blows up in his face. I loved the end of the dynasty and calling Michigan St a better program than us.

Wisconsin - 13 rushes
MTSU - 18 rushes
Ole Miss - 23 rushes (close game)
ULM - 13 rushes
Georgia - 26 rushes (20 in the first 2.5 qtrs)
Arkansas - 27 rushes (close game)
Texas A&M - 32 rushes (close game until 5 minutes left)
Tennessee - 28 rushes (close game)
LSU - 38 rushes (close game until he closed the door)
Miss St - 22 rushes
Charleston So - 9 rushes
Auburn - 46 rushes (semi close game)
Florida - 44 rushes (semi close game)
Michigan St - 20 rushes
Clemson - 36 rushes (close game)

He didn't have any games where he kept running the ball after we were up 28 points. The only game that was anywhere close to that was the Georgia game, and that was because it was a driving rain storm with a true freshman backup. And even that game he was out by the 4th.

I'm confused though, because the argument against Bama backs ever receiving in accolades while in college is that the Bama O-Line is always so good that anyone can rack up stats in Bama's offense because the RBs don't get touched until 5 yards downfield anyway.

Leonard Fournette averaged 25 carries per game last year as well.

ETA: I mean, if we are really going to discuss running a RB into the ground, Henry played 4 more games than Fournette and only had 95 more carries. If L5U had won the West and made the playoffs, Fournette probably would have had over 400 carries.

Henry made the Bama OL look better than they actually were last year.

Not one of them had over 1,000 yards last year in the NFL.

LOL - only 7 backs in entire the NFL had 1,000 yards. Only 3 had 1,100 yards. Only 2 had more than 1,107.

This day and age is built around RB committees. Nobody in the NFL even averaged 100 ypg last season. It doesn't happen anymore.

Just curious, how many of those Derrick Henry carries resulted in being basically untouched (unless you count him stiff-arming someone)running for a touchdown. Think you can deduct those from his total........

He got very few in games that weren't in doubt after halftime.

13 against Wisconsin, 18 against MTSU, 13 against ULM, and 9 against Charleston Southern. He had 20 against Michigan State, but that was mostly trying to keep the clock running.

As soon as the game was in hand and a quick turnover wouldn't put us in danger he was pulled out. Every time.

So 1 stat for 1 season proves everything? You must have flunked out of college.

That's got to be generous. Anybody who follows SEC football knows the basics, like Miles' use of DEs, Gus' preference for finesse WRs, or Saban's two-RB system. Last year was very much an anomaly. I'm embarrassed for the OP.
