I like the idea of either doing away with divisions and having three perm opponents then rotating the other five games, or of doing the "roommate switch".

Either of those options would be great and IMO big improvements over the current set-up. Teams could keep their biggest games and we would get to play ALL the other teams in the conference more often. It is absolutely ridiculous that we currently only play some teams once every six years (and only visit once every 12 years). But it would be even worse to lose any of the best games in the conference. Either of those two options solves both problems.

This is right in time...2016 is when Bama will want to stop playing Tennessee, anyway.

Would make sense for the SEC to do away with divisions.

8 conference games. Each team could have 3 permanent opponents.

The rest of the 5 conference games could be rotated between the other 10 teams.

You'd play every team in the conference in two years.

Permanent opponents:

Alabama - Auburn, Tennessee, LSU
Auburn - Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss
LSU - Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Alabama
A&M - LSU, Arkansas, Mississippi State
Arkansas - A&M, Missouri, Florida
Ole Miss - Mississippi State, LSU, Auburn
State - Ole Miss, Vandy, A&M
Georgia - Auburn, Florida, South Carolina
Tennessee - Alabama, Florida, Vandy
Florida - Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas
Vandy - Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee
South Carolina - Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia
Missouri - Arkansas, South Carolina, Kentucky
Kentucky - Vandy, South Carolina, Missouri

You could tweak it, but basically you'd only lose a few "rivalries." LSU/Auburn and Tennessee/Georgia being a couple of them.

ETA: You could make LSU/Arkansas permanent rivals, which would make Alabama and Florida permanent rivals. That would work too. Just depends if the SEC would be willing to give up the LSU/Alabama game. Seems to be one of the most high-profile ones on the schedule each year.

If the SEC would go to 9 games, our rotational issues would be solved.
Been sayin this since the aTm/Mizz expansion.

So they're going to play everyone else in their conference...then play a CCG? Why?

Did you happen to watch last season? If you did, venture a guess as to the only reason why they would do this.

Tweaked just a little just to see - but like your idea alot

Alabama - Auburn, LSU, Tennessee
>Iron Bowl, Saban Bowl, TSIO

Arkansas - Missouri, Ole Miss, Texas AM
>border feud, most played SEC school, SWC feud

Auburn - Alabama, Florida, Georgia
>Iron Bowl, restore a long-played rival, DSOR

Florida - Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina
>restore a rival, WLOCP, natural fit

Georgia - Auburn, Florida, South Carolina
>DSOR, WLOCP, border feud played more times than UTK

Kentucky - Missouri, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
>border feud, 2 other long-standing feuds

LSU - Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas AM
>Saban Bowl, border feud, border feud

Missouri - Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas AM
>border feud, border feud, "old friends"

Ole Miss - Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi State
border feud, border feud, family feud

Mississippi State - Ole Miss, South Carolina, Vanderbilt
family feud, former permanent foes, enjoy the win

South Carolina - Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State
natural fit, border feud, former permanent foes

Tennessee - Alabama, Kentucky, Vanderbilt
TSIO, border feud, family feud

Texas AM - Arkansas, LSU, Missouri
SWC feud, border feud, "old friends"

Vanderbilt - Kentucky, Mississippi State, Tennessee
>border feud, pretend it's Ole Miss, family fued

Mizzou and A&M really don't have much history, and we also aren't particularly close geographically.

I'd prefer UT in this scenario or even South Carolina.

As long as we still get to play AU/LSU/UT every year I'll be happy with whatever happens.

yeah, looking at the historical records Missouri is kind of a wild-card. Arkansas could really turn into something intense for MU over time.

Tennessee's affliction with Alabama & vise-versa would have to move UTK away from either Kentucky or Vanderbilt. Kentucky may have no problem with that looking at that series record, though.

Missouri-Kentucky has a chance to get going as well. could be a pseudo-Illinois type feud for y'all. unfortunately, there's nobody that can replace Kansas for MU.

Arkansas-South Carolina never really took due to the distance. it may as well have been Alaska are far as Gamecocks were concerned. I'd think Hogs felt the same way. I don't know if MU/USC will take that same path or not.

I do understand your sentiments about Texas AM.

It makes sense for the Big 12. At the end of the year, they will have the two highest ranked teams play each other, I would assume.

This would help give them a bump right before the final four rankings...

or they could just wait three years until it goes to eight teams.

I'm fine with eliminating divisions, going to 9 conference games, and everyone having 2 permanent opponents. 3 permanents seems excessive to me and you would end up with a lot of games that are not actual rivalries.

Permanent opponents:
Alabama: Auburn, Tennessee
Auburn: Alabama, Georgia
Tennessee: Alabama, Florida
Georgia: Florida, Auburn
Florida: Georgia, Tennessee
LSU: aTm, Ole Miss
Ole Miss: MSU, LSU
MSU: Ole Miss, Vandy
aTm: LSU, Arkansas
Arkansas: aTm, Mizzou
Mizzou: Arkansas, Kentucky
Vandy: Kentucky, MSU
Kentucky: Mizzou, Vandy
USC: none (there has to be one team with no permanent opponents and USC makes the most since it only shares a border with Georgia)
