I'm pretty sure Cam was in a fight for the starting QB spot going into the season (or at least that's how the coaches made it seem), whereas Mettenberger has been the heir apparent since he stepped on campus.
The difference is that Cam came to campus and took over. Mett came to campus and couldn't beat out Jefferson for the start and couldn't beat out Lee for the backup.
I like Miles but I sometimes question his decision on when to play someone. He lets a lot of guys spend way to much time on the bench when he shold have them in the game.
Just my opinion.

Harsh truth.

Why is it every time I see Mettenberger's name brought up, it's not from an LSU fan?

As much as I like to hate on my aubren brothers, they seemed more realistic in their expectations than the LSU fans. (as a whole)

Wrong.
Mett did come to campus and did beat out both Jefferson and Lee. Mett was obviously the best QB on the team.

Correct. It blows my mind sometimes how he won't put the obviously best player on the field. Patrick Peterson was head and shoulders our best punt returner on the field the day he showed up. He did not start returning punts in games until the North Carolina game his JR season. LSU spent 2 years with Chad Jones catching punts and rarely getting any return yards. PP comes in and starts blowing it up the second he starts returning them. Miles wasted 2 years of PP languishing on the bench when it was time to return punts for LSU.

Its not that mett could not beat out the other 2 qbs .He wasnt even given a shot. One thing will go down as a big mystery is wwhy Miles loved JJ.At 9-0 all it tokk was two bad throws by Lee and he never sees the feild again.JJ stank up the superdome for 4 hours and stayed. One thing about Mett this year will be there is nowhere to go but up.

That was really more my point than Mett couldn't beat them out. If Cam had come to LSU he wouldn't have played ahead of Jefferson.
I think MIles has somekind of loyalty to players that have been in the system for a while. It is almost like he thinks they have payed their dues and earned the right to play and the younger guys have not.
Most other coaches will play your arse the day you arrive on campus if you are the best man for the job and miles doesn't do that.
I use to get so frustrated watching Shepard sit the bench and then the one time he would touch the ball he would go 30 or 40 yards and then leave the game for the rest of the day. I would watch in disbelief.
The one thing that may make Mett successful is that MIles has no choice but to play him and stick with him.

Agree Scoop. Probably the biggest criticism of Miles, that sticks IMO. Playing JJ like he did, will always be a WTF moment for me, and others. I think he thought it was the right thing, for whatever reason, but think he'll disagree in time. I know that he has learned to get the younger guys involved much earlier, I've actually watched the change for the last couple years. QB in the SEC is a different animal, though. Almost think that throwing Lee out there, early, affected Miles to a degree. I think the staff Miles has now, will change alot of his decisions. They will be much better prepared going forward.

Mett was not even going to be the starter at UGA.

Cam because of the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...

I don't think any fans knew much about Newton but I'm sure coaches knew all about him. That is unless 6'6", 250lb qbs that can run like a deer and throw the ball from one end zone to the other just aren't that big of a deal. What put Cam under the radar was character issues.

I don;t think it is so much that we think Mett is the worlds greatest qb. I am sure he is probably going to make some mistakes and have more interceptions than Lee and jefferson because he feels he can make the throws. But I think most lsu fans are just excited at the possibility of moving the ball downfield. We have been completely one dimensional the last few years and this should hopefully open up the game some. Should make our running back even better and the team more balanced. Like all first time starters there will be some growing pains, but the potential is there to be much better offensively than we have been in the past. Defense still wins championships however...

If you guys keep telling yourselves that then you believe it to be true.
Watch this video and then please tell me how you can say that Murray was THE UGA starter coming out of the Spring? It is clear as day who the best QB on the field is.
#5 = Zach Mettenberger
#11 = Aaron Murray

Mett will have a better chance to succeed than he would have at UGA anyway bc he won't be surrounded by second tier talent.

Mett fur sure... the kids the real deal

How do you know PP was the best returner the day he showed up? You're also forgetting that we had the fastest guy in football returning kicks. And in 2009 Chad Jones averaged over 20 yards a punt return and Trindon averaged over 18.....both more than what PP averaged in 2010. Don't just make shite up
