Do the blue jays play the Canadian National Anthem before their games? I don't really care either way but i am curious. In soccer matches they play both teams national anthems based on wear they are located.

I believe the Blue Jays play it before their games. I think they do in Hockey as well. Quite a few countries play their national anthem before sporting events, and not always international sporting events either. Its not like the US is the only country that does this.

The guy was looking for a response and he got one. I'm not familiar with him, but it is pretty clear from his writing that his position does not match anything close to what the OP stated. His concerns seems to be over the commercialization of patriotism and whether or not the value of such displays is diminished with how common and grand they've become.

That is my understanding too... however if i had some bigtime dollars i'd pay for a flyover of the steal bombers or some A-10s for every game. Always pisses me off when we don't have them. If i were a mexican living in mexico with bunches of money i'd prolly pay americans for a flyover because well they are fkin awesome. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just weird.

If this is a display of rampant militarism it doesn't seem to be working very well judging by recruiting.

It's working perfectly when it reinforces this mindset:

People who tend to go to sporting events also tend to be more patriotic so I doubt they are offended

...of equating militarism with patriotism.

The United States of America is WAY more than just our military.

His concern is obviously that people tell Kaep to shutup and play but then display an outfield sized american flag before a game. Which is why he made this effort to "tweak" those folks.

I've always felt that it was pointless to play the national anthem at sporting events.

Of course you have.

Would love to see his twitter reactions to the BLM activists in the NBA/ WNBA and the Missouri football team, Kaep kneeling, etc before I pass judgment.

Yes, in a nutshell. Some west coast schools are even trying to abolish it because it is "offensive."

I mean by definition, the flag is political. It shouldn't ever be partisan, but it is political. And it has increasingly been perceived as partisan, you can simply look through this thread and note the number of times 'liberal' has been mentioned.

When they got rid of the rebel flag and Dixie, I told them their flag and anthem was next, but they didn't believe me...

Huh? That's not political....The civil rights era did happen and police were killing unarmed black men.

Besides Colin said repeatedly it had nothing to do with servicemen & servicewomen but those who only focused on the HOW completely missed that.
