Butch said on the show it was a goal to have a QB on Grudens show and that it just shows how far the program has come.

I've said a thousand times CBJ is about as tone deaf as it gets. Statements like that piss off fans to no end but the real reason why that is that it's been a long damn time since we had a QB with a real chance (Bray was a prodigy/freak on the physical talent scale -- his arm is incredible -- but he was a complete moron when it came to the mental side and it's held him back).

All that said, CBJ isn't wrong when it comes to our recent past. Our recent past has been terrible but we don't like to be reminded of that, especially given our history, blue blood status as a program, and desire to return to that level.

It's infuriating as a fan to be reminded of our dark years and when CBJ points out certain program facts like winning 3 bowl games in a row for the first time since 2007 it's even more infuriating because we all know that our ADs and powers that be should never allowed us to get to the point where mentioning those successes is to us simply pointing out achieving mediocrity at best. Our tradition and our fans are too proud to be anything more than enraged when someone calls such things a success.

However, his thought process was most likely had to do with the fact we havent't had a single draft pick in the last two years and that was starting to hurt recruiting. Dobbs' appearance on Gruden's show helps us a whole lot.

Call us spoiled or call us overly passionate when it comes to a game that is ultimately just entertainment but we want accomplishments that represent much larger things.

Was Gruden talking about NASA or NFL?

I'm not convinced Grudem has ever done more than 5 minutes of prep for these things. Here's his script:
*Repeat athletes name 15 times in their interaction
*Speak at 30 decibels louder than the QB
*Complement the QBs arm regardless of who they are
*Show 1 lowlight of throwing across their body for a pic or if not a pic say how it would be a pic in the NFL and the QB will act like that's the first time they've heard that.
*Follow it up with a clip of the QB getting lit up and then getting up in which he immediately says something over the top about what that means for the QBs character.
*Get paid $10,000,000 next year to say the same things about 20 other QB's

So you're just ignoring his production/the fact that he did things only Dak, Manziel, and Tebow managed and ignoring the fact that he did it all on a team that had 0 draft picks the last 2 drafts, a pitiful OL, a WR corps that struggled for 2 and 1/2 seasons before clicking as well as the fact that he joined the rushing/passing TD club despite having less playing time than Dak and others, because it doesn't fit your narrative/preconceived notions. Gotcha.

None of this changes the fact that he stares down receivers, doesn't anticipate well, and his accuracy is the shining example of the word "inconsistent".

I don't care what his stats were. Zach Mettenberger had better stats than Josh Dobbs but I don't see him lighting it up like Prescott.

I'm saying that Dobbs is no where near Dak.

Go look up their senior season numbers and get back to me.

Dobbs, Tebow and Manziel are the only quarterbacks in SEC history with multiple 300 passing 100 rushing yard games iirc.

Dobbs is an extremely likeable guy, i don't know how anyone can root against him. Even if he doesn't make it in the NFL, he'll be an astronaut or something amazing. Tennessee and the SEC should be very proud of this young man.

Oh it isn't? So this thread isn't about Gruden's stuff with QBs about the draft? I mean it says that Dobbs is a "sleeper" in the draft.

Yes, because Dak was far more polished coming out of college

now post the rushing stats

No. Why would we look at rushing stats when comparing quarterbacks? I'm sure Josh ran for more yards. I have no problem saying that Dobbs is a better runner than Dak, it just doesn't matter at the next level.

I see no comparisons other than both are black.

Aren't very observant, are you?

Dak Prescott was an outstanding college player who elevated an otherwise below average team into a title contender, much like Cam Newton.

SEC QBs with >50 passing TDs and >30 rushing TDs:

Tebow
Manziel
Newton
Prescott
Dobbs

So both are among 5 QBs to do this in the history of the SEC. But you are right...being black is the only thing they have in common.

So we're putting Dobbs in the same breath as Tebow and Manziel?

Of course not...Tebow and Manziel played on teams with at least some semblance of defense.
