I'm pretty sure that the biggest issue with Sumlin was we owed him the entire buyout within 30 days.

As to the answer it isn't Sumlin, because he helped put the facilities and infrastructure in place that landed us Fisher. Franchione is the worst mistake in A&M history. RC was on the brink of something with McNeal before we let him go for the fraud

I'm not sure we had alot of choices with Shula... and he was a decent grab considering, IMO.

He made the best of a shite situation. He gets a bad rap. He wasnt great, but he took the job when it was less desirable than most.

This is absolutely correct. The guy came in and gave it all he had in a bad situation. I'll always appreciate what he did.

Charlie Strong.

For the record, I was on board with moving on from Mack, but figured we could've done better than his successor.

I'm going to go back to my last post to disagree with you.

Steve Patterson did far more damage to your entire brand than Charlie Strong did beyond just football.

You're probably right. At least Texas was pretty quick to jettison from him, unlike the remaining Charlie apologists after KU. But Patterson was just awful.

You misspelled DeLoss Dodds.

I actually have a degree from Texas, and rooted for them as long as they were not playing A&M. I even deviated from that in 2005.

Once that a-hole started his hardball crap in ~2010, I was done. His arrogance and greed painted Texas into a corner they still haven't found their way out of.

Dodds cut the brake line when the car was going off the cliff, Patterson slammed his foot on the accelerator pedal.

So, he was just spinning his wheels, then?

From #3 in the country to getting embarrassed by rent-a-wins...

Ours is obvious.

The three Mikes who became Bama coaches. Shula was in a no win situation but Price was a bust from day one.

In hindsight our biggest bonehead move was hiring Jeff Long. He was perfectly fine for non revenue sports. Not great. Not awesome. But. You know. Fine.

He got lucky with Petrino and then things really went sidewise with him.

LSUNV

For LSU any answer other than Curley Hallman is wrong

An old friend of mine was deep in the LSU booster program at the time and he told me a story about how Curly alienated players from day one. He's passed away now but loved Curly as a hire initially... not so much after a couple of years. He thought that Curly had written a couple of pages in the book on how to beat Alabama, and thus was a great hire.

He said that Curly had an initial team meeting to meet the players already on the team. At which he told the players... "Now, one thing I can't tolerate on any of my teams is a thief. Unfortunately, I look around my new locker room and I see a lot of players with their mama's earrings in one ear. I refuse to believe that many players are thieves on my team, so maybe you boys should stick those BORROWED earrings in an envelope and send them back to your mama in the mail. I don't want to see them around here any more."

I'm sure my buddy paraphrased a bit, and maybe me, too... after recollecting after all these years. but I have no reason to totally disbelieve him.
