Both Miles and Saban had LSU and the entire state of Louisiana/East Texas to recruit and win. Saban now has Alabama who can pretty much recruit where they want. Arkansas doesn't have that. He'll need to stoop into Texas, Louisiana etc. pretty heavily to get the bodies he needs to play smash mouth. That said, I think it's a pretty good hire for what was out there. He's better than Gundy, Briles and Gruden in my opinion.

quite the opposite.

You're thinking this year. This years oline coach was fired after 2 games but they struggled after the previous one left to take a head coaching gig.

wasn't he the guy who bitched about Meyer's dirty SEC recruiting tactics? If so, not sure how he's gonna handle an entire conference of ultra cutthroat coaches going after his kids

Great hire other than that. Makes a splash, he's already proven he can get it done at the college level, his system will translate well to the SEC, etc

Not a good fit IMO.

To play great defense you better be able to recruit great athletes. How is he going to recruit? What ties does he have to hit the ground running and where do the recruits come from? Is he going to out-recruit LSU,A&M,Bama and the rest of the SEC for the elite defenders in states Like Tx, La, Bama, Florida, Georgia or the Carolina's?

I doubt it.

I think Petrino showed the blueprint for success at Ark.- Have a good system on offense and put up a lot of points and then hope your defense can hang on. You can scheme your way to pretty good offense (if you have a good QB) but it takes athletes on defense to be great. If you're a "ground and pound" offense like Wisconsin was, then you better have a good defense to back it up.

Probably a good hire though

It was down to him and two choices. He had the lowest testosterone out of the three.

Hire coaches that know the areas.

Must have really wanted to coach in the SEC. The only reason I can think of why he would leave Wisconsin.

Bielema is a solid person and coach.
He seems straightforward, no nonsense and ethical.

I like what he has done at Wisky and his brand of football but everything I've read/seen about him he is kind of a douche. He fired his o.line coach this year during the season.

Disagree. But I would have taken him over Gruden.

“I can tell you this,” says Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema. “We at the Big Ten don’t want to be like the SEC—in any way, shape or form.” Just so we’re clear: Bielema wasn’t talking about winning national championships. He was talking about Meyer’s recruiting tactics—and how after a little more than two months on the job, Meyer already is getting under the skin of his colleagues. Just how much, you ask? Bielema, whose teams have won more games than any other Big Ten team in his six seasons in Madison, says Badgers athletic director Barry Alvarez will speak Friday with Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany about Meyer’s recruiting methods during the league’s athletic director meetings in Chicago. During his National Signing Day press conference, Bielema hinted that Meyer was using “illegal” recruiting practices. He said as much again Thursday when contacted by Sporting News, and without getting into specifics offered this: “I called Urban and we spoke about it,” Bielema said. “We talked about it, and he said it would stop and it did. I’ll let our commissioner deal with anything else. That’s not who we are (in the Big Ten). We settle things among ourselves as coaches.”

Sounds like a big vag to me

This guy is going to hate life for the next couple of months if he doesn't want to recruit like the rest of the SEC does.

Bielema could probably kick the other SEC coaches asses in a steel cage death match though. I wouldn't frick with him.

The players hated him too. The chemistry wasn't there and the players didn't respect him. So Bielema fired his arse. Markuson is awful.
He can coach run blocking pretty well but coaching pass blocking is a foreign concept to him.

It's a big wait and see for me. Biggest question is recruiting. If he got pissed over Urban recruiting his verbal commits he's gonna shite when he gets down here.

Well gotta give Arky credit, they just got the splash of SEC Media Days. When Bielema gets up there it will be must see TV.
