We just talked to a parent. Te university is planning to build a rink on alabama's campus in the next 5 years. At that point it may become a Division 1 program.

4-0 Alabama, getting ready to start the 2nd.

Probably because of all the support bama hockey has, and what a money machine it is.

ACHA Div 1, or NCAA Div 1? Just to be clear.

I'd take wrestling over hockey any day. Most schools have a wrestling program around here. Huntington College is finally bringing wrestling back to Alabama next year, though it is only DIII.

We are really impressed with the talent of the players, there are some very good ones. Auburn's team doesn't seem as talented, but they are good at killing power plays. In the first period, Alabama had 27 shots on goal; Auburn had 4.

I'd say we could at least be middle of the pack attendance wise in hockey. That would be about 2,800 per game.

Even now, if you walk on campus, you will see plenty of Alabama and Auburn gear being worn by students.

This may be part of the problem

I believe the Compass Bowl proves people will still show up at Legion Field as well.

Also the Magic City Classic is probably to last game of its kind that still draws high attendance

It would likely be HC division 1, which is better than NCAA division 3. They would love to become an NCAA program, but then Alabama would have to add a women's sport too.

Currently 5-1 Alabama. Five min left in the 2nd.

Starting to look like Bama will once again, keep Au from ever touching The Cup.

ACHA D3 is basically the equivalent of a middle of the pack northern high school hockey team.

For people talking about any SEC school fielding an NCAA team i'd seriously doubt it, as I could never imagine successfully recruiting guys from Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts, Canada, etc to play.

We can offer something none of the other schools can.

A little, but a lot of it was unavoidable. They had a terrible record, weren't drawing many fans, their conference had just disbanded, they are the only team in the south. Hell, they only had 5 home games last season.
