Still a commuter school. Hell Cincinnati usf Houston and plenty of other "commuter" schools have had success that was just a dumb statement

Houston and Cincinnati are also in Metro areas with over 2,000,000 people.

Not all of us. I am old enough to remember UAB and Alabama getting along. Even now, if you walk on campus, you will see plenty of Alabama and Auburn gear being worn by students.

UAB basketball is and will always be special to me. From sharing a doob and some beers with Steve Mitchell and the guys, to walking to class with Bruce, to playing ball at the old gym with guys like Jerome Mincy, Those were special days. I catch at least 7-8 games a year.

They apparently don't appreciate it if you wear UA/AU gear to the games.

If the community supports it. Birmingham does not, unless you count the tickets the city "buys" to keep their numbers at FBS level.

Now 3-0 Bama. Two of bama's starters are St. Louis boys!

Make that 4-0 Bama, still in the 1st.

No shite, nobody wants to drive to west end to watch UAB lose.

The only time UAB made a bowl in 2004 they had better home attendance than Troy did this season. They even had over 30k for a home game against TCU.

Birmingham has shown with the Barons that if you put a stadium in a safe area of town people will show up.

Horrible comparison.

Birmingham Barons started playing in 1887, UAB as FBS, in 1996.

Auburn getting the puck beat out of them tonight.

Bham will support a winner UAB basketball, Barons, they'll go see winning football. Not some shite coached by McGee or Neil Callaway.

I believe the Compass Bowl proves people will still show up at Legion Field as well.

It seems like it's the AU fans that argue to the death over it every time UAB is mentioned. Must be the red-headed stepchild similarities between the 2 schools.

The Barons are a bad comparison, IMO. While I think Regions Field is GREAT, I'm interested to see how their attendance does now that the "newness" is wearing off. I was only able to make it to one game this year, and to quote one of the people I was with "It's a great place to hang out and drink some beer. If they win, great, if not, it's the Barons. Who really cares?" That's not the type of crowd you need to build your program.

People will go see UAB when they have a winning program, AND when Bama or Auburn isn't playing.

Depends on who they're playing, they should play during the week Iron Bowl week. But other than that you can still get a lot of students and bham people out to a game if they're good.
