How many of Saban's DC's have to crash and burn as head coaches before people stop hiring them?

If you want Nick Saban's defense, you have to hire Nick Saban.

Muschamp and Pruitt were both pretty dang good DCs away from Saban.

I'm one of the most obsessive defense watchers in our fan base and I think Pruitt is light years closer to what I want a defensive coordinator to be. That doesn't mean that Kirby blows... he just played it very conservatively

Now I know that most of you clowns are downvoting must be Bama fans. After all I could see why you would think 10 measly points is outstanding because you "won" but you needed how many no-calls on your scoring "drives"? GTFO. Bought and paid the refs again. And no targeting call on Etling? frick you Bama

I look at FSU for their championship year with Pruitt. Then I look at FSU the year after. It was pretty night and day. FSU had to come back in almost every game it seemed then had 59 hung on them in the playoffs. Defense hasn't been the same since either.

Has Pruitt been a DC anywhere long enough to actually build a defense? Seems pretty much impossible to reach a good conclusion until he settles down somewhere as long as Smart did.

I don't know which is better, but I like Pruitt's play calling and aggression better

You nailed it. Pruitt is more aggressive (more blitzes, tighter press coverage, etc.) than Kirby, but that aggressiveness can sometimes bit you in the arse. Imo, it's working well this year because it's basically a change of pace for Alabama's D and SEC teams haven't had enough time to analyze and adequately game plan against it.

It's hilarious anyone ever thought otherwise.

What Pruitt is doing now is what he did at FSU and at Georgia and is very different than what we did the past 8 years. Obviously Saban is fine with it or we wouldn't do it, but it's a change and it's what Pruitt has done free of Saban's reign.

Also - like I said before - Muschamp and Pruitt were pretty solid outside of the Saban ball and chain.

I don't know if it's CJP or the players this year, but I prefer the way this defense is playing.

Defense sucks. If I wanted to watch defense I'd watch a 1-0 soccer game or 0-0 NHL double OT tie

You certainly wouldn't watch a UT game.

Saban doesn't call defensive signals on a play to play basis. It's really basically the same responsibility as the offensive coordinator has. To me, that's the most intriguing part of a game involving closely matched teams. When the talent level is one sided, a monkey can virtually make the calls.

You're right. The thing is there is no team that can come close to matching the level of talent at bama. Any one of us on this board would have this bama defense near the top of the nation in any defensive category.
