quote:What a cursed team all the way around. Tennessee won the SEC with a 5-1 conference record; LSU went 4-1 in the conference; had Tulane not left the SEC, LSU would have been 5-1 and co-champs. And then there was the bowl game controversy
LSU - 1969
I hear a lot of great things about this team, but I wonder how great they really were. The schedule was really weak; the Tigers only played three teams with winning records (AU 8-3, OM 8-3, AL 6-5); their 10 opponents combined for a 40-63 record; these days, only one or two teams per year have schedules that weak.

They pretty much annihilated everyone they played except for OM and Alabama. Just thought I would add a twist to the question for those who don't remember games prior to 2000 or so

the LSU 2006 and UGA 2007 teams were very similar in that they were recovering from early season opponents and annhiliating quality opponents by year's end.

2007 UGA is tough to gauge.
They looked TERRIBLE against UT.
Great against a UF team while Tebow had a bad shoulder and a non existant D.
Great against an AU team that went 5-7 the next year.
Unbeatable against a Hawaii team that should have stayed on the island.

yeah, LSU's two losses in '06 that year were a narrow one with highly questionable officiating to an Auburn team that was in the Top 3 at the time.
The 22-10 UF loss resulted from a muffed QB sneak on the goal line that would have put LSU up by 14 points just before haltime. LSU gave the Gators the game on two cheap turnovers later in the game deep in their territory--Painful game to watch.
LSU in '06 came on in a late season implosion that was similar to the Bama '99 SEC Champion Team with a lot of offensive fireworks.
