I don't know about the best, but Ole Miss 2008 was a score away from Atlanta and did beat that year's SEC/National champion.

Which alternate reality was this? Alabama was 8-0 and Ole Miss was 5-3 in the SEC.

I'm not thinking straight tonight. Did we not place second in the west that year?

Tide won by only four I think. Meh...point is Rebs were Atlanta worthy that year but I don't think they knew it.

Had Ole Miss even beaten Alabama, they would have still finished two games behind a 7-1 Alabama team. Jesus.

There's a reason why we play the game. No telling what might have happened to Bama's season. Perhaps in the alternate reality, Nutt may have exposed a defensive weakness that other teams may have exploited and Bama may not have won another game.

But I'm a little drunk now, and it isn't worth your time to argue with me. But thanks for your reply anyhow

1 game. Ole Miss would have been 6-2.

yeah, but you had Jamarcus at QB- he was not a championship QB

You must have missed the complete implosion the 2006 Sugar Bowl winning LSU team had at the end of the year despite not winning the Conference. It was similar to what Alabama did in 1999--kind of starting slow and losing two games but coming on strong and punk-slapping the crap out of every opponent as the team progressed.

The team likely would have throttled Florida in the SECCG (UF beat Ark 38-28 in the game) and was better than several other teams who had won the conference throughout the decade.

LSU 2006 team was 2-3 plays from a perfect season

UF--J Russell fumbles the ball away while attempting to run the ball in from inside the 1. Game is likely out of reach for UF after this TD. J Rock also threw UF a very cheap int deep in their territory resulting in a TD. LSU also hobbled a punt deep in their territory.

AU--Pass Interference gate in one of the most questionably called games in league history.

The Stoerner Arkansas team 1998 ended up being beat handily by a lower ranked Michigan team in the Citrus Bowl.

Regardless, it's obvious Ole Miss wasn't four points from Atlanta, as the OM poster suggested. Alabama was 8-0 in 2008, while OM was 5-3.

2001 UF had a NC caliber team. equal or even better than 1996 UF team imo.
2001 UT was loaded with NFL talents but they laid a giant egg against LSU, Full Philmer style.

1988 LSU

Both LSU and Auburn each had 1 SEC loss and LSU beat Auburn (earthquake game). I'm still not sure how Auburn won the tie breaker that year and won the SEC.

They ran out of gas at the end of the year. Arkansas nearly came into TS that year and beat us.

They were probably better thuan that 2005 UGA team who beat them in the SECCG 7 out of 10 times.

Had just a few circumstances turned out differently LSU could have had 3 straight conference titles from 05-07

If I could say thank you to Stoerner's face, I would. And shake his hand.

2007 Georgia. I think they would have beaten LSU in the SEC title game.
