The pay average is skewed some... Nurses at Metro area hospitals make a good bit more than an RN working at a small town medical center.
This is not entirley correct.. Many small town hospitals pay more than Metro hospitals...
In fact, as you ascend the profession as an Advanced Practice nurse..NP or CRNA..small rural hospitals pay much more than metro areas..

Not starting out. It can go up pretty quick though if you are in a major hospital and make it to a supervisory capacity which can happen pretty fast.
Starting out in the BHM area working 3 12hr shifts a week is around 40K. Paid time off is good as are other benefits.

Got to love the explanations from Auburn fans in this thread. I'll never forget hearing from Auburn people how the U.S. New and World Report rankings were the gospel truth in the 90s and early 00s when they were ranked just ahead of Alabama. That ranking has magically become bogus the last few years now that Alabama is ranked ahead of Auburn. Now the excuse is that this is a flawed ranking as well while the big salary.com ranking that ranks Auburn so high in mid career salary has totally flawless methodology of course.

Time for everyone to rationalize why list is shite.
I haven't dug into the methodology at all, but I know for a fact that my alma mater's business school (which is not on there) has a higher average initial salary than our engineering school (which is on there...and not too far down the list, either).
Is there some quirk in the methodology or something?
Also, I cannot believe that Harvard is not in the top twenty.
Edit: I see that Harvard and Yale didn't release info.

When considering the bottom dollar...why would a nurse want a supervisory position.....a cut in pay and a constant headache? My first year as a Surgical and Cardiac Intensive care nurse I made 78K with no overtime (weekend night shift), my 2nd year I made 90k, my 3rd year I made 105k....in poor South West Georgia....the salaries varied..but new grads working the floor were averaging 50 - 60k with very little overtime....interestingly I had a graduate degree in nursing as a new nurse and my buddy had an associates degree only from the local college and we both started at the same time...before I left for Anesthesia school...his last year he made 132K..
at 24 dollars an hour hospital wide pay for all new hires no matter the department..your looking at about 50k annually,,because you're gonna work more than 36 hrs a week as a nurse, even if you're not looking for overtime...but most are gonna work overtime...that's where the money is made..
now CRNA is another story..200k is easy rural...I stay away from the metro areas...

No, when USNWR started letting schools report their own data is when the rankings became bogus. When one of their major criteria is acceptance rates it became bogus. When schools have thousands of fans with just a GEDs apply to the school, the acceptance rates naturally decreased. When schools have certain elements of their school incoming class not count toward those figures the ranking became bogus. Just like this ranking, they do not dig very far to get their numbers.

It's pretty well known LSU's engineering school is superior to bama's, so chalk up another bullshite academic ranking pissing match

The back and forth bickering is inane. There is one good academic school in the SEC. Just one.

It's delusional to disregard completely reasonable criteria used in school rankings. If the rankings had Auburn ranked higher, you both would be singing their praise. Admission percentage is a totally reasonable thing to measure the prestige of a school. The link shows another, completely different ranking, that agrees with this one. Hard to argue that both rankings/methodologies/data is bs...
You guys just resort to pulling stuff out of your arse and say that all of these redneck "GED's" are applying to Bama. That's delusion.
