This thread is kind of pointless.

The only reason Bama got Saban is that he sucked in the NFL. It's the same reason USC got Spurrier. If those two hadn't been available then who knows what would have happened for each school.

The point is, you don't know when he retires and you don't know who will be available at that time.

The answer is not true or false. It's maybe or it depends. A big check book doesn't matter if there is no one worth a crap to whom to give a big check.

Look at UF after Meyer checked out. There weren't any/many (depending on your view) big names available at the time. Foley took a chance on a coordinator instead of hiring a current head coach he didn't believe in. It was a crap shoot but most hires into the big schools in the SEC are crap shoots. Look at UT and Kiffen. Seemed like a POS hire at the time, looked like he might be able to compete then the sumbitch high tails it out of town.

Look at Petrino. Commonly thought of as a scuz, good coach but couldn't keep his willy contained and fricked over Arky. He was a risk from the start and it ended up costing Arky.

You rarely have the ability to say for certain that a coach is going to be a success when he's hired.

Was Mark Richt the best option at the time for UGA. It's worked out OK for them but it certainly wasn't a sure thing.

History shows Bama will screw it up. Unlike LSU following with Miles.

And as I said, our hiring process and requirements will be much different going forward than previously as well. We will no longer feel the need to here someone connected to the program. This will make for a much broader pool of candidates and will remove sub-optimal bias towards particular coaches just because of their football heritage.

History will be irrelevant because of this.

remove sub-optimal bias

I'm trying to process this. Is removing optimal bias lesser than removing sub-optimal bias or is it better to keep the sub-optimal and remove the optimal?

Removing anything sub-optimal is better than removing something optimal. With Florida supposedly being all smarty pants and stuff, I would think you as a fan could process this.

sub-optimal bias makes no sense is the point I was making.

You either want to remove bias or you don't. When making a coaching hire I would think removing any type of bias is the way you want to go.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a dumb UF fan.

In our previous coaching searches, we had a bias towards coaches with a Bama pedigree. That bias was sub-optimal. Therefore it was a sub-optimal bias.

Going forward, we should have a bias towards better coaches regardless of pedigree.

It's really not effing rocket science here.

Gumps use the lame and inaccurate "LSU was irrelevant before Saban" line a lot so I'm forced to.
