Overall, if you are looking for something without the crime or traffic of southern cities like NOLA, Jackson, Birmingham, Montgomery, etc, then Dothan is pretty nice. I would recommend it to anyone past the single stage of their life. Lot's of doctors and attorney types in the area along with a decent number of engineers from Farley. Your wife could find people to hang out with and I would think it would be a good place to open up a vet office.

Oh hell yeah.

Going to Jasper is an instant boost of self confidence.

Be careful when there not to verbalize it.

They have hit men and shite.

LMAO!! I got weathered in at the Walker County airport one night. Had to call a damn cab from BIRMINGHAM to come get us. Not one person in Jasper knew where the airport was. Told a pizza delivery guy there was an extra 20 in it if he could take us with him when he drove back. No luck, he didn't know where the airport was either.

I live 20 miles out side of Dothan .I golf at round about ,you cant beat it for the price. Now I wouldn't live in Dothan .right outside is nice.Beach is 1.5 hr. away ATL.ga 3.5hrs. Crime is low outside of the circle. for asyour wife & vet work hope she likes horses & cows . Hunting is good & fishing is real good salt or freshwater.

what line of work are you going for?

Auburn attracts alot of rednecks due to the fact that it's the agricultural school. Plus, Auburn doesnt have a river either.

The part about the river was a bonus for Dothan. I used to think the smell from t-town was caused by the paper plant, but I think it is from the river.

What smell? Unless my senses are off, it smells like every other urban city I've been to.

While I do not live in Dothan I do live about 45 miles north of the town. Dothan would be concerned a small to medium sized city. There are the normal enmities of any city such as mall, movie theaters and golf courses. The town has good hospitals and about average school systems. Manufacturing base seems too limited as most of the new building seems to center on shopping and sales. I never feel unsafe in any of the areas of Dothan that I visit nor do you ever hear of major crime reports. If constant excitement is your need then this is not the place for you but if raising a family and their happiness is your goal then go!

I work for a company based in Dothan, AL. I go there for training on occasion. From an outsiders viewpoint I see it as some on here are saying. A city that is not so small to have to drive to another city to go to movies or a bar or something. They do have pretty decent restaurants. Kind of small town feel but big enough. Seems like a good area to live in. I have stayed in several of the hotel rooms and never felt threatened anywhere. The plus of being that close to PC Beach is great. Someone said a nice place to raise a family but maybe if you are looking for the big city lights move on to ATL or BIR.
