You can't just start new traditions all willy nilly. this is like giving people nicknames just to give them a nickname. you have to earn it, and traditions have to come from something naturally stupid. forced bullshite

It's a stupid marketing ploy to sell more class rings, nothing more.

Calling something that some salesman made up a "tradition" doesn't make it so.

So what's the deal with the curse of the AU Seal, will a curse fall on you if you walk on the Seal?

And is the holy water from the AU President's fountain with the power to exorcize the curse the only way to save yourself?

If you step on the seal, something bad is supposed to happen to you - become a Bama fan or something equally hideous and disgusting. I never heard of this superstition while I was there, so I don't know what its provenance is.
The water bit is something completely new to me.

The superstition I do remember from my days at Auburn (1972-1976) is that the old cannon lathe by Samford Hall would start to turn if a virgin coed walked by - har de har har.

I am sure that every school in the SEC (if not the country) has equally silly "traditions" - like houndstooth apparel and misspelled tattoos, to name a couple that come immediately to mind.

Exactly how did I "defend" this?

I don't think you've evolved quite enough yet.

Deciding another school's tradition is silly is a pretty dumb thing to do. They can have what ever traditions that they want to have, but don't talk about those of another school.
I personally think that throwing toilet paper in a tree is pretty silly, but if that's what they want to do, it doesn't cost me anything, so I don't care. All traditions have to start with doing it the first time, so maybe this thing will work. I know that A&M has a big tradition concerning their rings, and frankly it makes more sense, but if Auburn wants to start yet another one, go for it, but to justify your own, don't make fun of others.
