Just called an AU grad that I'm simi-friends with and asked him about the curse of the seal. He wouldn't go into specifics but he did say the seal had powers over raceing stripes and boxer shorts.

Beware the seal.

Well, at least its not like tamu, where you only have to complete like 75% of your courses before getting a ring. I imagine Auburn at least requires you to graduate first.

Most every school I know of allows students to buy/wear the ring after accruing X number of hours.

From the Auburn website:
quote:

Our ring is reserved exclusively for students who have achieved junior year with at least 75 credit hours in good standing.

The Aggie ring requires 90 completed hours with at least a 2.0.

The Aggie Effect. Didn't State start having "yell practice" or something similar? The ag schools can't help themselves.

Isn't Arkansas also a Land Grant School? (Aka, an "ag" school). Or are you just too stupid to know that?

Nah. We just pick them up, dunk them in a pitcher of beer, then wear them. This shite is even too weird for us.

That was my first reaction, too, until OP mentioned a curse. AFAIK there is no curse associated with an Aggie ring.

On the other hand, youngster Aggies act like "ring dunk" (guzzling a pitcher of beer to get to one's ring that has been dropped into said pitcher) is a time-honored tradition dating all the way back to 1995 or so. So maybe they've placed a curse on the rings, also. Because tradition!

Meh. When you graduated from Aggieland women being allowed in to A&M was a more recent thing than thr Ring Dunk is now. By the time my kids do it, it'll have been done for 60-70 years.

So you're saying I'm old? Is that really your point? Because... I forget.

At least the A&M ring stuff is based in the military tradition of the school.

In my time in the military I must have missed the bit about guzzling a pitcher of beer.

But I do like everything about the ring. And if us olds had had a "ring dunk" I'm sure I would have embraced it. Because beer. Beer good.

ETA: That was your 666'th post. I apologize if I've offended you, Satan.
