DB: Push

Top to bottom w/depth...I dunno. Maybe. No way though are the UL starters equal to AU's:
CB-Blake Countess (All-Big 10 senior transfer)
CB-Jonathan Jones (All-SEC)
S-Tray Matthews (former 5* and freshman all-american)
S-Rudy Ford (leading tackler, several All-SEC preseason teams)
CB/S/Nickel-Josh Holsey..maybe the most talented of the bunch that is finally healthy. Arkansas might remember him...see below

I'm not trying to be a dick here, but what the hell man? We have people saying Auburn will be top 25 on D. All of a sudden they have a really good secondary. How has this come about?

I'm not doubting that any given year Auburn can be the shite, but where did this awesome defense come from?

People say things. It's up to you decide if you want to believe them.

The amount of things that are either not true, or twisted to make y'all seem better than you really are in this post is really impressive.

Adding Lawson, Matthews, Countess and Muschamp should help a bunch. Also, experienced, senior LBs and another year of growth for Adams who is a super talented DT that has just had problems being consistent.

Eta: the secondary seems to be very solid with starters, but zero depth to speak of. I'm still concerned about it. Lawson bringing pressure theoretically will ease their burden.

I wish when people did these type of comparisons that they would use OL vs DL, WR vs DB and the like. Who cares if AUs OL is better than ULs. What matters is if they can block ULs DL.

Not a knock on the OP, just never understood what good it did to compare units that never face each other.

One of our biggest problems last year. QB's had all day in the pocket

You will not have many saying that.

I will be thrilled if we get to the top 50.

As far as the op. It seems fair, in that both Louisville and Auburn are bringing in lots of new faces. On paper, Auburn def has the edge, but we will see when the teams meet.

I do think many are going over board with their expectations for the defense. I think you will see a unit that will go from bottom half of the SEC in most defensive stats to top half. From pretty bad to a little above average.

I will be extremely disappointed if our D is around top 50.

I expect top 25. We have at least 4 and probably 5 of our 11 defensive starters who are likely to be in the nfl next year.

We return 8 starters. And Lawson who is gonna be all world. And Mathews and an all Big ten player.

Agreed. lawson will be the biggest difference maker in the Auburn defense. Muschamp will make a difference...but his difference will show up MORE next year.

Only thing I'll disagree with is giving Auburn the coaching advantage, not because they have worse coaches than Louisville, but Auburn is replacing their defensive coordinator and it's Game 1. I wouldn't want to be breaking in a new defensive coordinator against Petrino in the first game of the year at a neutral site.

I hope you are right and I am wrong, but until I see it on the field, I will be very skeptical. It has been a long time since I could look forward to a really good Auburn defense.

Meh, its going to be an Auburn home game essentially, there will just be more pregame and half time activities from Louisville then if it were in Auburn.

I think it will be like the arky game last year for us

Can't blame you for the wait and see approach.

I personally think this is the year it comes together on D. I also think we are better this year than in 2016 on D as I expect to lose a lot to the nfl after this year.

Well that's all y'all need to have a shot at your goals this year. How's Cowart coming along?

You don't think Louisville fans will travel to see Petrino play Auburn in Atlanta?

Think about it.
