What a ridiculous statement to make. You're painting on a pencil with an air brush.

To be fair, I don't hear any of my educated pro UAlabama friends refer to themselves as "Bama fans"

What was left out is that Auburn has their fair share of "Barners"

Most don't. We will refer to a game as "the Bama game" if it conflicts with other plans (i.e. "I can't make it. We're heading to the Bama game this weekend").

We all have that side of our fanbase. To be honest, I've never been bothered by others wanting to attach themselves to the university in some capacity. In the South, it is generational. Many people pull of a team b/c their parents and grandparents pulled for that team. I don't think having attended a given university should be a requirement to pull for that university - regardless of if it is AU, UA, LSU, etc.

I never played for the Braves, but I sure do want them to win.

My problem with Allin2010 is that his post was meant to imply that AU is some unique place that is loved by its supporters at some magically greater levels than any level of love supporters of other schools give their universities. As another poster retorted,
36% Bama grads donate back to the UNIVERSITY. Less than 12% of AU grads can say the same.

Paying for nick sabans autograph and a swatch of his undies is not giving back to the university

Sorry

Most of the Auburn Alumni are first generation College Graduates. They were raised by blue collar parents from the Great Depression, whose priorities were their family, their church and their community. Most State named Universities have generations of college graduates and thus more willing to put their school on that priority list. AUs demographics will change in the next few years (has already happened in some of the funding campaigns).

The jimmy rustling power of this statement alone is enough to keep it in the Auburn lexicon forever.

This is a great troll thread. Bama, LSU, and Aubie has the # of posters needed for it to continue for a while. If you pick Bama as a SC poster, no one takes you seriously and the flamewar quickly dies. Pick LSU and it is anchored or deleted because hurt feelings hurt. But pick Auburn and magic ensues. The thread quickly changes from "frick USC" from Auburn fans to Bama vs Auburn in the Jimmy Rustling championship.

Truly a work of art.

If I was a Mizzou fan I'd be trying to get Auburn out of the conference before September too considering what happened the last time we played

Auburn was chartered in 1856. That whole "most alumni are first generation college graduates" line is laughable.

Auburn has 200,000 living alumni. It's simply not possible for them to all be first generation. For your statement to be true, why aren't those first generation grads sending their kids to AU?

quote:

They were raised by blue collar parents from the Great Depression

Which took place nearly 80 years after you chartered, but whatever. Let's not get bogged down by facts.

Yes. That is super unique in the South. No other area in the South besides Lee County is noted for their priorities being family, church, and community.

1856, bro. you've been around long enough to stop trying to sound like "poor me" about this issue...unless you simply are trolling, which is more likely (i hope) than you being this foolish and ill-informed.

is it true that some sidewalk bama fans love Alabama Football and are less concerned with portions of the university that they've never been connected to? of course.

is that unique to Alabama? Not even close. Again, I ask, what year did these first generation AU grads complete their degree? When did this bunch last attend an on campus fundraiser to help the English Department?

I mean the OP isn't wrong.

Auburn is only relevant bc of Alabama.

And that they got away with one of the biggest scandals in college football history.
