True. But he probably could have saved him and the team a LOT of grief had he kicked him the year before when the troubles first started.
I agree but lots of programs have been burned by those high risk/reward players.
I am always shocked how someone with so much talent and potential and the future can risk it all with such stupid choices.

The issues didn't really surface until summer or spring. He probably gave him too long of a leash but better players get that.

Most of the big recruits are spoiled rotten. they have been told and treated like they are special since the 8th grade. they are allowed to get away with stuff by their parents because they are their future meal ticket....and the schools allow them to get away with garbage because of the name recognition the kid will eventually bring to their school. They they get to college and the colleges give them too much rope.
Anyway. Just my opinion.

I kid of call BS on that. He was suspended for the bowl game.
Hindsight is always 20/20 though and I get wanting to give a guy another chance.
We just got burned by this one. Not to mention (imo anyway) he was dogging it on the field as well.

Completely forgot about the bowl game.

True. And....Auburn has been very successful with turning players around. So, it is really hard to talk bad when they decide to give a player a second chance.

But you are right.....they throw millions away because they can't stay out of trouble for just a little while. It's amazing.

We all try to forget bad memories!
And, in the long run your team will probably be stronger for Malzahn taking a strong stand with Williams.

Auburn goes for an arse drag next year in the opening game and his seat catches on fire. Search for his replacement starts after game one. He gone!

quote:Yeah, your former HC kicked our arse year in and year out for the past decade. I'm really glad you ran him off.
Because we are your daddy and have beaten you 7 of the last 10 years.
quote:You mean Alabama won a national championship despite your DC (whose secondary gave up 400+ yards passing).
Our DC just won a national championship with Alabama at his previous gig.
quote:I think it was pretty much established that our offensive performance against y'all was the worst since Gustav took over - even worse than the previous year between the hedges. Again, good thing you ran off that DC the same time you ran off the 2nd winningest HC in your program's storied history.
We beat you with, pretty much, a punt return and the wild dawg last year at your place.
quote:I don't think 'VAST' improvement will be necessary. I think the two teams were equally matched, as the game indicated. Considering how bloody awful we were, that says a lot about how much improvement your team will need in 2016 as well. The fact that you're counting on an unproven HC, an RB who's still recovering from a devastating knee injury, and a QB who still hasn't attended his Senior Prom gives me some hope.
Unless there's VAST improvement by Auburn, we should be able to handle the gus bus in Athens.

No going 3-9 and completely losing your team by the middle of the season is grounds for firing. Gus hasn't lost the team.
Fair enough.

Not really. We're in the East!

In all seriousness...and no troll...who will be your QB next year? Do you have any commits right now? Will JJ start or will it be Sean White...or somebody else?

quote:My hope is that it will be Sean White, and that Gustav and new OL Herb Hand will install an offense similar to the one they ran as co-OCs at Tulsa in 2007-8.

There are those that believe that Malzahn is incapable of having a successful offensive attack without a dual-threat QB like Cam or Nick Marshall, but unfortunately we don't appear to have one on our current roster. There's a short, skinny JUCO kid we have who just enrolled, but I personally don't think he's the answer.
Tl;dr: I've no idea

Lots of hope being placed at the feet of Juco transfer John Franklin III or True Freshman Woody Barrett. I doubt we will be much better if it is Sean and there is always the hope that JJ lives up to his obvious talent level.
I am not expecting a 10 win season but to think Ole Miss, arkie and even bama are automatic L's is crazy. It's like you people have never watched Auburn football.

We really have no clue at the moment. Lots hope Franklin delivers, but I am cautious of a guy who split reps in Juco.
White seemed servicable at times, but (at least to me) he looked too breakable to run the ball much.
Also, I am really surprised JJ has not announced he is transferring(unless I missed it).
Furthermore, the qb, as bad as it was, was just one component. As much as I like Barber and his blue collar attitude, he is not an elite back. I hope Jovon stays and has a breakout year.

In that particular game, sure. But defense is what got them there.

I've heard that talk. Has Malzahn's offense ever been successful without a dual threat? I honestly don't know. White, I believe is a better option than Johnson, but you know more about your team than I do.

I understand. And definitely not tldr worthy. I asked a question and you tried to answer. Anybody that wants to act like they can tell the future is just fooling themselves. Thanks for the time and effort you put in trying to answer my question!
