From Jon Soloman of CBS Sports:

Auburn's loss to Ole Miss assures the Tigers of a non-winning SEC record for the sixth time in eight seasons after eight straight winning SEC years under Tommy Tuberville. The Gene Chizik and Gus Malzahn eras are boom-or-bust compared to Tuberville, who was steady (until his final losing year) but didn't always win big enough. In the Tigers' two winning SEC seasons under Chizik and Malzahn, they reached the national championship game.

Auburn is a great test case for fans: Do you prefer higher highs and lower lows from your favorite team, or a more stable program that doesn't win big enough? Georgia fans are curious about the answer.

i have been thinking about starting a thread on this for some time. which do people want more; miles/richt or chizik/malzahn?

of course, auburn's situation is special. played several games with an ineligible player in 2010 and caught lightning in a bottle twice in 2013 so it's not like they had an lsu/bama type season where they just straight up beat everyone.

I would take the weird cycle we've been on of suck, meh, and going to the ship. Winning 9 or 10 games every year only leaves you with moral victories. We've at least got some hardware.

Tubs recruited the state of Mississippi to keep those schools in thier place. Chizik and now Gus have abandoned that recruiting ground and allowed Auburn to sink to that level in terms of depth and talent.

Auburn needs to hire Dan Merlins.

Will absolutely take a ship appearance every 4-5 years w some shitfests in between than take a ship appearance every never like Georgia, A&M, Ole Miss and other consistantly alright programs.
It's an easy answer for me.

seriously prefer higher highs. It is so frustrating being an 8 or 9 win team that could always be close to doing something yet fall short. UGA fans are in the same boat as us with Tubs, good man and good coach but you won't win shite with him there because he will derp a few away.

I said when we hired Gus that Beilema would give Arkansas more stability but we have a better chance at a championship. Gus will always be a momentum coach and we are getting better as the year goes which we haven't done in a long time. Next year, we could be a good team with a chance especially if our defense continues to get better (which it has whether you see it or not). Gus needs to do some tweaking on the coaching staff potentially moving Garner to tight ends, getting a new defensive line coach and potentially replacing Lashlee with someone that can challenge him to implement some better intermediate plays.

Tubbs led Auburn team was the only SEC team during the SEC dominate BCSNCG years that got left out (2004 undefeated) and it couldn't have happened to a more appropriate coach!

What's the point of winning games if you never have a league or national championship to go with it.

Question is how are UGA fans feeling about Richt and this season? Are they ready for a change? They got consistency throughout Richt's tenure, but doesn't have much to show for it.

I will be honest, I would love to have both consistency and championships, but if I had to choose, I am picking championships.

Both are frustrating for fans... bc we see what we COULD be.

The current roller coaster sucks dick... but there isn't a fanbase outside of Alabama and fsu that wouldnt trade the last five years with auburn.

Tubbs was richt with fewer resources... thus the lesser results.

The two really are very similar.

its a fair question

I don't know. Those championship seasons are great, but seasons like 2012 and this year arent any fun.

I'd take less frequent championships in exchange for less shitty "shitty seasons".

Didn't Tuberville beat Alabama like 6 years in a row? That's one of the glaring omissions in this thread.

I always felt like Tuberville got a raw deal in Auburn. But then I realize how much he deserved it and I didn't care.

How more infrequent can Auburn get with two championships and one loss?

Tubs was a dead man walking for years because of his relationship or lack thereof with the good ol boys running AU back then.
